Hello my steem friends,
It's so good to be here today, it's season two of Steemit engagement challenge week 2 and am already excited. I belt you would not know how I missed this challenge while it was on a little break. I can't stop to appreciate the steemit team for coming up with this initiative. And to this amazing community I say thank you for hosting this contest with the little No place like home: why you prefer your country to any other country
I believe after reading my entry you would also fall inlove with my country, so seat back and read till the end.
My name is @ruthjoe and I am from Nigeria. I was born and raised in Nigeria.
Nigeria is my country and I would like you to know that Nigeria is located in Africa, precisely in west Africa. My country Nigeria is one of the most popular countries you can find in Africa, it is surrounded by some other African country like Niger to the north, Benin republic to the west, Cameron to the east. Nigeria is divided into 36states and capital for proper identification.

Nigeria has her president as General Muhammadu Buhari. Nigeria is a democratic nation with several tribes and ethnic groups like the igbo's, the Hausa, the Yoruba, the Tiv, Fulani and several others.
My country Nigeria gained independence in 1960 October having its currency as Naira. Nigeria is blessed no wonder it is refered to as Giant of Africa because of her economy and population. Alot of natural resources are found in Nigeria such as crude oil, cotton, rubber, Gold, and many others.
Nigeria is densely populated, having her population of over 2 million people as at the last 2020. Most times the population of a place produces their manpower. Take a look at Nigeria's population in a map.

My country Nigeria has a beautiful weather and climate. We have two seasons in Nigeria. The raining season and the dry season. The raining season is usually our planting season. We have consistent rainfall. Farmers utility these season for Agricultural purpose. There are several climates experienced in Nigeria such as the Sudan savanna, Sahel savanna and the rest. Am going to use a map to clearly show you the different climates experienced in Nigeria.

My country Nigeria is an English speaking country with several religion found in it. Religion like Muslim and Christianity been the two popular religion. Nigeria has a national flag with her colours as green white green
There are several things that interest me about my country Nigeria and i will share some of it with you today.
- Fashion

Nigeria's fashion is one great things that interest me so much. Nigeria has a great taste of fashion. Her fashion is very unique, ranging from traditional attires of different tribes in Nigeria to English wears made from Ankara.
For the igbo speaking tribe, their men put on a hat and long cloth known as isiagu which is interpreted as lion head while their women put on a scarf on their head known as as you can see from the picture above of a beautiful Igbo family.
For the hausa's and youruba's men they wear a traditional attire we call the Agbada which makes them look unique.
Fashion in Nigeria has really contributed in the economy of my country.
- Festivals
My country Nigeria is rich with different festivals observed. Every tribe has their unique festivals they observe and this makes them unique in their own way. Believe me when I tell you the festivals in Nigeria is one of the great things that interest me in Nigeria. Some of the festivals in Nigeria includes; the new yam festivals observed by the igbo's, the arugungu fishing festivals observed by the hausa's, the ayo festivals observed by the yoruba's.

You need to see where festivals are been showcased in Nigeria. It is usually a fun affair, where indigiens come together in unity to celebrate. This is one thing that unites Nigeria together.
- Climate and weather
The climate and weather of Nigeria is another thing I love about my country, like I said earlier we have two seasons in Nigeria. The raining season and the dry season. The raining season comes with cold will the dry season comes with heat. When it is cold, it is not extremely cold like say upto 20°c, and when it is hot it is not also to the extreme. This is one great thing that interest me about Nigeria. Anyone can easily adapt to the weather and climate of Nigeria.
- Nigerian food
Nigeria has good food and cook well too. I love Nigeria for it's varieties of food made available. We have pounded yam, fufu, eba, semovita, and varieties of soup like bitter leaf soup, egusi soup, oha soup, beans soup, ogbono soup, and many others.

I love good food and I can tell you that Nigeria has good food. The varieties of food in Nigeria is one of the things that interest me about Nigeria. Have you tasted Nigerian party jellof rice? You will love it.
- No serious Natural Disasters
My country Nigeria Is so blessed that we do not experience serious Natural Disasters like earthquakes, vulcanic eruption, tsunami, horricane, drought, famine and the rest. Since I was born till now I have not seen any of the natural disasters I listed happen. This is such a huge blessing and so grateful for that.
There are just so many reasons why I prefer my country Nigeria over other countries and here are a few of them
- No serious Natural Disasters
One strongest reason why I prefer my country Nigeria to any other country is the absence of serious Natural disasters.
What is a natural disaster?
A natural disaster from my perspective can be seen as natural occurrence that causes damage or loss of life and properties to a nation. National disasters has made alot of person's become poor just in a twinkle of an eye. Natural Disasters has also made alot of people homeless and has made some loose their loved ones.
Drought

Here in Nigeria, we do not experience drought, earthquakes, volcano, horricane storms and many other hazardous natural disasters.

There are so many disasters that my country Nigeria is free from. We don't live with the fear that we will have an horricane storm in Nigeria. I don't know how Nigeria is excepted from such disasters but I know that this is my strongest point preferring to live in Nigeria than anywhere else in the world.
- Our food
Another thing I prefer Nigeria to other country is the varieties of food found here, no wonder when you travel out of Nigeria, the Nigerian food are very expensive to find. The expensive nature of our Nigerian food outside the shores of Nigeria makes alot of Nigerians not to eat well. I know a friend who traveled out of Nigeria to a country. He only lasted 2months and he ran back to Nigeria. When he came back, he kept complaining about the fatty food he was eating over there. He said he felt he was not feeding very well. So he had to come back in other to get Nigerian food and plan on how to send them there.
If I eventually live my country Nigeria in search of greener pastures I would be willing to come back. Yes.
Aside the no serious Natural disaster that is present in Nigeria, and the varieties of food, I believe when I go in search of greener pastures, I would want to come back to Nigeria to help my people in any way I can. I would want to implement some development I have seen and experienced. Indeed No place like home
Home is the safest place to be and Nigeria is my home, it safe from natural disasters and the varieties of food are topnotch.
