**Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 43: My beliefs about Cesarean Section (CS)**

Cesarean Section is the surgical delivery of a baby through a cut on the mother's abdomen and uterus in order to save life.It is done when a woman's cervix refuses to dilate fully in order for the babyto be pushed out.,even though doctors cannot carry out a cesarean section without the husband's consent or the family's consent if the woman is unmarried.

How it Marvels me to see people have fear of being operated upon and choose to have their babies in a traditional birth attendant's home in which there are no equipment for operation if the need arises .So what happens next will be loss of lives which will now cause sorrow and regrets to people involved because of fear and ignorance. And also some people can deliberately refuse to be operated on or give their consent for their wife or daughter to have a cesarean section.That takes me to a flash back on what happened to a friend in the neighbourhood .

Anty Nkechi was a very good Christian who had been married to her husband Mr Greg for about eight years without a child.She worked as a sales representative in a good firm with good take home package as salary.Her husband Mr Greg is a business man who deals on all kinds of building materials.He goes out early in the morning and comes back late at night.

Because of the wife's childlessness,Mr Greg started sleeping out and when he comes back home and is confronted by the wife he beats her up .Rumours had it that he has impregnated a young girl far from the neighbourhood but Anty Nkechi did not lose hope as she and the husband were medically fit.

She kept on praying to God for the fruit of the womb like every other woman would because the joy of marital fulfilment is to have children.Mr Greg ordered his wife to park her things and leave his house but she refused and kept hope alive.She still went to work and did her duties as a wife.

One day anty Nkechi felt sick and thought it was malaria until the fever persisted .She could not wake up so early again .She then decided to go to the hospital for test. The result of the test came out positive that she was three weeks gone.she could not believe her eyes still looking at the result of the test in her hand.She carried the medical report,went home and showed her husband after dinner but he cared less.He developed so much hatred now for the wife for no just cause. Meanwhile, the girl he impregnated has put to bed a baby boy. The joy he had now knew no bounds as he is a father now .

Anty Nkechi watched her tommy protruding as each month passed by.When she was due ,she fell into labour at about 6a:m and was taken to the
Evergreen hospital where she attended her ante natal.The midwife on duty took her to the labour room while we waited outside . She was in the labour room for more than six hours and all these while she was screaming loudly.When the mid wife could no longer exercise patience, she called the doctor who came and checked her and opted for a cesarean section.

The doctor called the husband to sign as a surety for the operation but he refused saying that she would deliver naturally.His family members pleaded with him to sign the papers but he refused. Time check now was 5pm.Anty Nkechi was groaning now in pains as her cervix was too tight to open.

The doctor refered her to another hospital since the husband refused to sign and he even rejected his family members from signing the papers saying that if they
sign and anything happens to the wife that he would sue all of them to court .

At saint Luke's hospital which was the hospital the doctor refered them to,the doctor there also demanded for operation . This time the husband accepted reluctantly. As the wife was wheeled into the theater ,she gave up .No ooooo the husband screamed but it was too late.Now the doctor had to operate her corpse to bring out the dead baby before taking her to the mortuary .What a great loss because of fear and ignorance. Something that could have been averted in just 45 minutes.

Now my belief about cesarean section is that doctors should go ahead to carry out cesarean section and not wait for stubborn husband's like Mr Greg to save our women's life.,because I time they will remarry while the woman's s family lose their daughter. God forbid.

I also know of a family who has three children all birthed through cesarean section. Immediately the wife gets pregnant and is due the husband wi ll just sign for a cesarean section and the woman bear the pains for a little while and life goes on . That is understanding.

So please my lovely people allow your wives and daughters have a cesarean section when the need arises because it's also safe to avoid lose of life or lives and regret later.
