Let's show how creative you are:- Drawing - Grasshopper

I want to begin this post by expressing the joy and happiness I have within me for being one of the winners of this contest hosted last week. This week is obviously another chance to be creative and be a winner. We are told to draw a grasshopper, which is an insect each and everyone of us should know about, These iconic insects are known for their remarkable capability to leap great distances and produce a compelling buzzing sound. They are mostly green in color, and found in grasses, off course, that's literally why they are called grasshopper 🦗. A grasshopper is not like other insects example; cockroach, housefly, and mosquito etc, that we can easily see every day. For instance, if I should ask "when was the last time you saw a grasshopper"?. I surely believe that your answer would not be today, yesterday, or day before yesterday, you might answer last week, last month, last year, or last two years or more. However, grasshoppers like and reside in grassy lands and areas, especially area where spade and carpet grasses grows. At this juncture, it would be advisable to consider some important and interesting facts about grasshoppers, some of these facts include:

1. Grasshoppers comes from the order known as Orthoptera.
2. The sound produce by a Grasshoppers comes as as a result of it rubbing it's legs or it's wings.
3. Grasshopper undergo an icomplete metamorphosis.
4. Some species of Grasshoppers can migrate long distances.
5. Grasshopper are herbivores insects, that obviously explains why they like perching on grasses.
6. Grasshoppers posses compound eyes to enable them pick up on motion and basic form, and also to discern the distance between their bodies and other things.
7. No doubt, Grasshoppers a times can be pests for crops like maize 🌽 etc.
8. The Grasshopper's antennas are meant for sensing their environment.
9. They possess a hard exoskeleton.
10. Lastly, Grasshoppers can be found on every continent except Antarctica.

With the above fact been said, let's dive into the drawing of the Grasshopper 🦗.

As seen in the picture below, tools I would be needing for this drawing included:

• Plain sheet paper
• Pencil
• Eraser

I started by drawing the one of the Grasshopper's compound eyes. A grasshopper possesses five eyes, each serving a specific and important purpose. Precisely, a grasshopper has 3 simple eyes and 2 compound eyes.

Moving on, I have drawn the Grasshopper's entrie head. The head of the grasshopper constitute it's eyes (i.e compound and simple eyes) antennas, mandibles, maxilla, labrum, and it's mouth for eating.

At this stage, I have drawn the entire Grasshopper's thorax region, I also have draw it's fore and middle legs. A Grasshopper's leg is made up of 3 main parts. These consist of femur, tibia, and tarsus.

At this stage, I've drawn one of the Grasshopper's hind limbs and its abdominal region. The Grasshopper's hind limbs consist of two parts, it's femur and tibia. On the other hand, it's abdominal region consist of it's wings cling to a somewhat mechanism around it's thorax. The Grasshopper's abdominal region also includes it's spiracles, cercus, and it's ovipositor. Below is the end results after much pencil shading and erasing.

For more realisticness I'll add a shadow beneath the Grasshopper, to give a more clear idea that it's perching on the floor. Below is the end results. What do y'all think.

Although Grasshoppers are among the small organisms in our ecosystem. They play an important role in our earth. They possess some potential attributes that can benefit both humans and the ecosystem. First lets consider the role the play in :

• Our ecosystem....

• Nutrient Cycling: Grasshoppers contribute to nutrient cycling and soil fertility, as they consume plant materials and end up excreting waste matters.

• Food Source: Grasshoppers serves as a food source for some major predators like reptiles, birds, and mammals, assisting them to maintain and sustain various animal species.

• Plant Growth Regulation: Grasshoppers are good plant regulators, in that as they feed on certain vegetation, they assist in regulating plant growth, thereby preventing any single plant category from dominating a particular area.

• Pollination: Chief handlers in plant pollution include insects like bees and butterflies, however some Grasshopper species also contribute to pollution as they transfer pollen between plants during feeding activities.

• To humans in general....

• Food Source: Grasshoppers a protein-rich food source, however in many human cultures grasshoppers are consumed along side other foods. They're nutritiously sustainable.

• Medicine: Grasshoppers have been used for treating various health ailments especially in various cultural traditional practices. Further studies have shown that this claims is only limited.

• Research: for those in the research industry, studying insects like grasshoppers and their behaviors have provided broader knowledge into ecological principles, biomimicry, and agricultural pest management for better technological innovations.

• Cultural Significance: Grasshoppers forms a realistic feature on folklore, literature, and art, which no doubt contributes to cultural heritage and storytelling traditions around the globe.
