Anger, violence, strife, these are what prevails in the world today especially among young people. The people with such attitude tend to harm others by their behavior and even themselves are affected.

✓ What is aggression?

Aggression refers to a wide range if behavior or characteristics that results to psychological or physical harm to others, oneself or an object. It is the act of hurting another person either physically, mentally or even emotionally.

Most people tend to be aggressive when :

• Expressing their anger or wrath
• Threatening others
• Achieving a goal
• Responding to their fears
• When competing

Aggressive behavior can be physical, which involves hitting, beating or stabbing someone or damaging their properties. It can be verbal, which involves name-calling, yelling or mocking, aggression can also be relational, this has to do with harming the relationship of another person by spreading rumors, and telling lies about the person.

Is it more prevalent among the youths in your area?

According to the scriptures at 2 Timothy 3:1-5, the scriptures prophesy tht in the last days many will possess aggressive attitudes. It is common among people of all ages, we see husband's hitting or beating their wives, aggressive drivers, passersby fighting. It's not something new to us.

This type of aggressive attitude is more common among our youths today, they go to the extend of even forming court groups for the purpose of achieving their aims which often involves aggression.

What are the causes?

Many factors work together to produce aggression, most of these factors include:

• Biological factor: this involves the background of the person or his family line. If his family bears the aggressive spirit he is likely to inherit it or be influenced by it.

• Environment: Also the environment a person finds himself can influence him greatly. If he often witness aggressive people or he is treated with aggression. He is likely to be aggressive.

• Psychological factor: Most times the mental health condition of a person produces aggression in him. Most illnesses can cause aggressive behaviors.

What are the effects?

There are many effects associated with aggression. Some of them include:

• Cardiovascular issues for the person who shows aggression

• Loss of life and properties for victims

• Breakup of relationship for both victims and
  the person who shows the aggression

• Fear for the victim

What are the solutions?

An aggressive person can control his anger by:

• Being mindful of some signs that can cause him to flare up

• Walking away from some situations that could annoy him

• Engaging in hobbies of exercise

• Practicing relaxation techniques

There are many other ways to control aggression, if is caused by a mental disorder then the victim might need to meet his physician.

It is very difficult to live with an aggressive person and that is why everyone who tends to be aggressive must work hard to control it.
