5 Things l Like About My City Of Residence.
10PC REWARD GOES TO STEEM4NIGERIA
I trust everyone is great in our latest and newest community! My heart is filled with joy to write in our own indigenous community, frankly speaking have been longing for a community called ours, and here I am, my longing is filled. Today I will be taking part in our first contest organised by our beloved admin @ngoenyi "5 things I like about my city of residence" you know I love so many things about my city of residence so stay tune as I will unfold just five among them.
I live in the city of uyo. Uyo is the capital of Akwa ibom state of Nigeria! It became the capital of Akwa ibom state the land of promise in 1987. Uyo is a beautiful, peaceful and charming City one could ever live in. In fact it's the most peaceful City in Nigeria. It's a mixture of old and new. Our primary language is Ibibio. We also have many recreational activities and centres in the city which makes it fun to live in but for reading sake I will write about what I like most in uyo.
Uyo is a fast-growing city and there has been massive infrastructural growth. We have intensive network of divided highways, pedestrians and flyovers all over the city.
I choose good Roads because good infrastructure brings about economic development in a particular place.
I personally benefited from the construction of good roads all over the city because it ease traffic, I can travel anywhere around the City comfortably without any hold up.
Another thing I like about uyo City, good variety of foods in fact we are known to be the only tribe in the whole of Africa who get varieties of delicious foods, ranging from Edikan ikong, Afia efere, Afang soup, Editan soup, Atama soup, Okra soup, ekpangkwukwo, jelof rice, Etidot, and many types of portage and poridge etc.
We have varieties of delicious fruits as Well. Truly time will fail me if I'm to mention our varieties.
My city is blessed with delicacies and I so much like it because I don't have to repeat a particular food frequently. Before I finish a whole lot of different varieties I will be craving for the old one and the food is so nutritious yes they all stack with numerous health benefits.
Uyo people a predominantly Christians. Most people believe in the existence of God the creator of heaven and earth. Outside this some still practice traditional worshipping In their shrines of numerous deities like ibok, idiong and ndem etc. They believe that this deities are messengers of the supreme being who oversees the peace stability and well-being of a particular area.
I chose religion in this aspect because there is freedom of worship in this City we are not forced to worship in a particular way but we have the freedom to choose for ourselves. I am a Christian but we got some Muslims and traditional worshipers too who worship their god peacefully one need not worry when considering the freedom to worship.
The fourth thing I like about uyo city is education, priority has been given to education the government made it compulsory and every child has the right to be educated for free up to the secondary level. They provide social amenities like good infrastructure, educational facilities like the textbooks, trained teachers etc for this children. Also the city is the home of University of uyo, Uyo city polytechnic and the national open University.
I choose education because it's accessible for all both the poor and the rich this makes it possible for the poor to be educated to learn how to read and write and to make wise decisions in life.
I so much love the dressing code of my city of residence the dominant attire of ibibio men is loincloth (Ofong isin) and shirt with hat and staff to go with. While that of women is known as 'ndot iba' with head gear and blouse to match. We have other attires for both men and women, the senator dress for men, "Abada" etc and for
women we have skirt and blouse, short and long gowns, short skirt and blouse etc. We normally look beautiful and gorgeous on these dresses and we wear it in different occasions.
This is just few among many reasons I love my city of residence. As I said uyo is relatively peaceful it is notably neat no wonder about the slogan "Akwa ibom ayaya" meaning Akwa ibom state is beautiful apart from that the people in my state are hospitable we welcome strangers and visitors in fact we love foreigners more than ourselves (comes the saying ibibio ibaha idem) so I can comfortably tell anyone to relocate to my city. I will like to invite my friends @iddy @vickydear @gracyakan and @eliany to join in this Contest. Thanks for reading through!
