Did You Know?
Introduction |
|---|
Hi lovers of history, it's your friend again coming to you with historical events and facts. I welcome you to a fresh edition of your favourite content on Steem4Nigeria. Did You Know?
We are in the month of May already. I feel I should touch some of the past events that took place this month in our nation, Nigeria.
May 29th Celebration |
|---|
Before June 6, 2018, 29th May was usually celebrated as democracy day in Nigeria until it was formally changed by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Did you know that 29th May was picked and celebrated as democracy day because it was the day a democratically elected government was sworn into office in Nigeria to end the era of uninterrupted military dictatorial regimes in the country?
Of course, President Olusegun Obasanjo was sworn into office on 29th May 1999 as a democratic elected president after 15 years of military rule in the country. And so, the day was celebrated as democracy day in the country until it was changed in 2018, history for another day.
I hope you have been reminded of the day? Or did you know it was so? Join me for another edition of Did You Know next week.
