Give us a brief introduction about your country

My country, India, is officially known as the Republic of India and is located in South Asia. We have a parliamentary democratic system of governance headed by a prime minister, while the president is the nominal head of the country. We have a multi-party system of governance. Our country is culturally, religiously, and linguistically diverse, with a history dating back thousands of years.

We are the second-most populous country in the world and the 7th largest in terms of area globally. Our population exceeds 1.3 billion people, and we have a land area of approximately 3.5 million square kilometers. Having mentioned linguistic diversity, it's important to note that our country recognizes about 23 different languages. English and Hindi are the official languages of our country.

Religious diversity is another fascinating feature of India, where people from different religions live harmoniously with utmost brotherhood. Hinduism is the majority religion, but we have a significant population of Muslims and Sikhs too. Besides these religions, Christianity, Jainism, and Buddhism are also followed by some people in our country. The religious diversity is manifested by joint celebrations of festivals by Indians harmoniously.

We are a culturally diverse nation where traditional cultural practices are intertwined with modern practices. Different festivals like Diwali, Eid, Christmas, and Guru Purab are manifestations of diversity.

Besides the impressive landscape, we have some remarkable landmarks like the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, Jaipur Palace, and metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Delhi is the capital of our country, and Mumbai is the industrial hub that harbors the famous Bollywood industry.

We have a mixed economy based on agriculture, industries, and the services sector. Each of these sectors plays a major role in building the economy of our nation and is growing day by day

What is/are the mineral resources your country is blessed with

Having mentioned earlier that we have a land area of about 3.5 million square kilometers, and there are some major minerals (of the more than 100 minerals) located in our country, including Uranium, Coal, Gold, Iron ore, Lead, Zinc, Magnesium, Tungsten, Diamond, Feldspar, Quartz, and Mica.

Although these minerals can be found sporadically throughout our country, some areas of our geography are rich in minerals. Additionally, we have three broad plateaus known as the northeast region, northwest region, and southeast region

Has these mineral resources been fully harnessed

"I would say, due to various challenges, we are not yet fully harnessing the mineral resources that we have. India is one of the top five countries endowed with bauxite, iron, and zinc. Looking at the richness of minerals in India, one can understand that these should have a fairly good contribution to the GDP of our country. As I mentioned, these minerals are not utilized to their greatest potential because they only contribute 2.3 to 2.5% of the GDP.

Although reforms are made in this direction, there are certain challenges at the level of regulations, environmental issues, and infrastructure. Known as the zoological potential of OGP is used to compare the potential and utilization of geological resources. We have an OGP of only 10%, which means that we are only utilizing 10% of the geological resources that we have.

Has the proceeds from these resources been used properly by your government for the welfare of her citizens...support your answer (Yes/No) with good points.

Yes, the proceeds from these resources have been properly utilized by our country. I hold that opinion for the following reasons:

Ministry of Mines

• The 2.5% of the GDP contributed by mineral resources means a lot, and that GDP is being utilized by our government for the welfare of citizens throughout the country.

• For the financial year 2010 to 2003, we have a revenue of 118,245.85 Cr from the mining industry, and these funds have been utilized for the welfare of people directly and indirectly.

• For the year 22-23, our government has published 245 exploration reports of the mining sector.

• For fostering transparency and accountability in the mining sector, our government has conducted 336 auctions until December 28, 2023."

Conclusion

India is an incredible country in the South Asia which horboure about 1.3 billion people and is situated on an area about 3.5 million square kms. India is religiously, culturally and linguistically a rich nation. Indian soil is rich in minerals and accounts for about 100 minerals resources. Although, rich in minerals but due to certain challanges , lot is yet to be explored.
