**SEC WK2 : The language in my country**

in Steem4Nigeria8 months ago

My dear country is a great country with a multilingual setting that makes every side a unique tribe. It is one country that takes the language of tribes very seriously in the scheme of things in the country as they continue to politically share resources across regional lines. Lovable countries that stand on a tripod means of communication to regionalize and classify their citizens.

What is the name of your country? How many languages can be found in your country?

The name of my country is Nigeria, popularly known as the giant of Africa with the greatest GDP when economically rated, and the most populated black country in the world. There are many things to be remembered for positively despite some bad elements that brought bad leadership to us.

The country has over 500 languages spoken and these make every unique. Even in regional, state, and local government council areas where you have people of different kinds, they speak languages slightly different from each other. Each time some of these words are known for being used while speaking, it is easy to know where exactly they are from. But one thing about this is that they all understand what is spoken.

However, my country has three major indigenous languages spoken aside from the official English Language. They include Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba Languages. Each time one speaks any of these three, we simply know which zone they are from. These are our identity and also represent our culture and all we stand for.

Those who speak Igbo are predominantly found in the eastern part of the country. Hausa speakers are from the Northern part of the country, while Yoruba speakers are from the southwestern part of the country. These are our country's major local languages that differentiate us as a people.

Among the listed languages in your country, how many are you familiar with?

I am an Igbo woman but was born in the northern part of the country. This makes me also familiar with the languages of the north. Therefore, I currently speak my tribal language which is Igbo, and also that of the Northerners which is Hausa.

These are the languages I speak:

  1. Igbo (For those predominantly from the South East)
  2. Hausa ( For those predominantly from the North)
How has this language improved/helped your life and business?

Knowing both languages has paved the way for me during my career paths and other business transactions that I execute. For my career path, I was able to secure some job portfolios due to my ability to speak the Hausa language during my Industrial attachment and the one-year compulsory national service program.

Down here in the east, speaking the same language has afforded me to trade and buy home foodstuff at affordable prices from Hausa foodstuff sellers since they are the major dealers of foodstuff in the east.

Are you willing to teach your children these languages? Yes/No. State your reason.

I am trying so hard now to imbibe these languages into my boys. They are way carried away by the official language of the country which is English. However, there is so much work on my side to inculcate these languages in them.

Just as I have enjoyed the same privileges from speaking these languages right from small which paid off in the early days of my career and now in purchases, I believe teaching them would also grant them the same opportunities.

In conclusion, languages are our identity no matter where we are. A French man in Nigeria would be happy to see speakers of his language around him. Makes him feel at home, and so do other speakers of local languages

It is interesting to read your publication where you explain very clearly about the culture and language in your country which has 500 languages.
Language is the identity of a nation,, from language we can know where a person comes from.

Good luck in this Challenge my friend..

@chilaw, your exploration of Nigeria's linguistic diversity reflects the nation's rich tapestry. Your proficiency in both Igbo and Hausa opens doors in career and business, showcasing the practical advantages of multilingualism. Encouraging your children to embrace these languages preserves cultural identity and opens opportunities. A valuable contribution to the Steem Engagement Challenge, I wish you the best of luck dear.

Good presentation of comment and use o tenses. I appreciate when we are identified by our languages as these are our heritage. We will continue to pass it down to the next generation to uphold them.

Our language is our heritage and our identity which should be held in high esteem. Thanks for the mention and I wish you success.

Me resulta intersante la gran riqueza linguistica de su país, y que cada región tenga su idioma propio. Usted se ha preocupado por conocer el Igbo y el Hausa para tener una mejor comunicación con quienes les rodea.

Éxitos en el concurso.

Ouh my God, you can speak both igbo and hausa.

While I'm here still anticipating learning another diverse tradition languages different from mine.

Indeed you've inspired me and our country Nigeria is one of a kind and I do cherish all we have,
Ranging from each ethnicity, religion but yet still one in unity as a nation.
That's massive to us and this too aid our relationship in businesses and generally well being too.

Kudos 👏

Hahaha... You sound funny. You can learn them if you can and stop anticipating

Nigeria with a massive number of 36 states is blessed with different languages numbered over 500. Being a multilinguist helps a lot in different occasions. I remember when I greeted a Hausa shoemender in their local language and he mended my shoes for free. So, it's good to know many languages. Good luck
