Steemit Engagement Challenge S5/W6 - “A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed"
Greetings fellow members and friends of the Steem4Nigeria community. It is another opportunity for us to share content about “a friend in need is a friend indeed”. I think this is a good topic for discussion because many people will call you a friend meanwhile, friendship is conditional. My write-up will focus on the guiding questions and I hope you all will enjoy reading.
To me, it is an adage saying and I think following this saying, one can truly determine whom to call a friend.
My understanding of the phrase is that a friend is always there to help out whenever I am in a difficult situation that needs help.
If truly you are my friend, then you need to take my pain as your pain because that is exactly what a good friend should do. I always try my best to help my friends whenever they are facing challenges.
Do not be a friend only when everything is going well. During hard times, be there to comfort your friend and if possible help them financially. However, help should not only be financial because some friends think that in times of challenges money is the only help needed. Mental support is vital from a close friend during difficult days.
In the nutshell, a friend in need is a friend indeed simply means someone who stands by you when you truly needed their help.
Of course, I have several friends whom I can say are friends indeed. For the sake of the contest, I will mention only one of them whom we have been friends with since 2016 till date.
She has always been there to support me each time I needed a requirement and I have also been there to support her during her difficult times that she needed me.
She is more than a sister to me and I will choose her as a friend over and over again if given the opportunity.
As I earlier said, we met in October 2016 at the University during my master's degree program. We were both doing the same course in the same department.
What made us to become friends was the way we both responded to questions in class. She admired the way I handled issues in class and she began being close to me.
From there, we become close friends and help each other at all costs. Her name is Yafi Adeline and I use to call her my small friend because I senior her and she called me her mother.
What has kept us going throughout this period from 2016 till date is the sacrifices we both made for each other. One of the sacrifices was during moments of ill health and financial issues.
There was one day I was seriously sick and it was at night at about 9:00 PM and I felt seriously ill. We use to spend the night in each other's room and on that day I was at her place to spend the night there. During that period, most taxi drivers were closing for the day since it was during the peak of the Anglophone crisis, and working at night was highly risky.
My friend took me at that moment and asked me to manage and walk to the road where we could get a taxi to the hospital. Along the road, I was unable to walk again and she pleaded with some car owners heading home to help her take her friend to the hospital and they refused. She pleaded with one taxi driver heading home and he was not responding, and my friend pleaded on my behalf and the man changed his mind and took me to the hospital.
While at the hospital that night, the pains were unbearable and I was inside with the nurses crying. My friend was outside moving around waiting to hear the good news that I’m stable now but to no avail. During that night 2 patients brought in that same night died and my friend was so scared and was outside praying for me to come out alive. She stood by me for 5 days in the hospital till I fully recovered from the hospital.
There was also a time during the crisis that her parents were trapped in the bush for about 3 weeks. There was no communication and she and the younger brother had no food. I had to step in to provide food for them throughout till they were able to get to their parents.
Today, I can say our friendship has grown stronger. Even though we do not live in the same region but we always support each other in times of need.
Oooh my goodness, this is a hard question to answer but I will attempt to give a satisfactory response. She is not on steemit, however, I have talked to her several times about steemit and she does not show any interest.
People have their different priorities in life and steemit is not a priority to her. Maybe because she is a UN worker and doing work and taking care of family is pretty difficult for her to do with steemit.
I wish she was here to read this I am about to write about how amazing she has been as a friend. If I am allowed to re-choose my friends, I will choose her over and over again.
She is the one person I can confide in her about everything in my life and feel safe.
She will take up my problems to be her problems and look for all means to bring solutions.
She is respectful and always respects my decisions and takes me for who I am and do not judge me. She is indeed a friend.
I will invite @majerius, @f2i5, and @fombae to share their thoughts about the phrase “a friend in need is a friend indeed”.

Your friend is a friend indeed. Friendship is all about reciprocating, from her staying with you staying by your side when you were sick to you stepping in for her parents. It is amazing what we can achieve when we lean on others for help.
Blessed day friend, I hope you are well with the favor of God 🙏
Her words to refer to her friend are very special and I hope she can read this publication even if she is not on Steemit. There must be a means for me to read it.
I really liked reading it and seeing how they both took care of each other. It's nice to have people who care about you and are with you in good and bad situations, that's being a true friend.
Friends are wonderful and they are like our brothers.
Excellent post. Thank you very much for sharing it with all steemians.
