Cockroaches are common pests found in our homes and apartments. They are mostly found where food is kept or prepared and also in dirty places like toilets. Their presence is embarrassing to most people.

Their mode of feeding
Cockroaches feed on any organic food source available to them. Although they prefer sweets, meats and starches, they consume other items such as hair, books and decaying matter.

Their uniqueness
What makes cockroaches unique are:

1. A cockroach can live up to three months without food.
2. A cockroach can live without its head for up to one week
3. A Cockroach runs away from light. They prefer dark places.
4. A Cockroach can live for a month without water.
5. A Cockroach can live in different types of environments and hot places.

Do you believe it has any role to play in the world's ecosystem?

Let us first look at the meaning of ecosystem: It is a community or group of living organisms that live in and interact with each other in a specific environment.

Yes, Cockroaches play an important role in the world's ecosystem. Below are some of this uniqueness.

1. They eat decaying matter and excrete nutrient-rich faeces.
2. They aid in recycling elements like nitrogen.
3. Organisms, like arthropods and birds feed on cockroaches. Therefore, they are part of the food chain.
   Cockroaches are suspected carriers of the organisms that cause diseases and infections like Cholera. Dysentery, and leprosy.

Here is my drawing in stages
Stage 1:

1. I draw the head of the cockroach
2. I draw the body of the cockroach
3. I draw the forelegs and the hind legs

Stage 2:

1. I shade the compound eyes
2. I shade the wings
3. I shade other parts of the cockroach
4. I draw the antenna.
