My Neighborhood Watch #95 - Reporting Events Around us

The Nigerian Police Force is one institution that significantly contributes to the corruption plaguing our nation, Nigeria. Initially, I strongly disliked them because of their corrupt ways. However, I made a conscious effort to befriend some officers, hoping to understand their perspective. Unfortunately, a disturbing incident on the morning of April 13, 2025, it made me dislike them even more than before. This is what happened....
That Sunday morning when we were coming back from Okobo Local government area, heading to our hometown, Uyo. We were stopped by some policemen at their checkpoint, asking for the driver's licence and car papers of which we gave to them. Everything the driver had was accurate and complete, it was even confirmed by them, but yet still, we were held back, because we didn't compensate them, that's it bribery for passage. How are we to give them money, when our vehicle particulars were accurate and up-to-date? This is the question I asked myself.
We stayed at their checkpoint for more than an hour, just because we refused to give them money, of which they don't deserve to receive. We pleaded and even showed them evidence that we're embarking on a church journey from Okobo Local government area, but they all said that God too accept bribe. Can you imagine their statement? First, that's a big insult to God Almighty.
As we were waiting for them to release us, another policeman stopped an Okada carrying two passengers behind. He quickly took away his motorcycle key, when the young man too refused to give them money. How on earth are we to pay this people, when they're been paid already by the government? Besides, we've not committed any crime, or driving along with expired document. Watch the video below when the policeman stopped the Okada man and his passengers...
I was so furious when I later found out that one of the passenger the Okada man carried was taking food to her sister who's pregnant in the hospital. Even after this young lady explained the current situation to the policeman, he still refused, till the driver gave him 500 naira, which was his last money. What set of institution is this?😭
The Okada man left with his passengers, and we were still waiting. They were tired to keep us as hostages, so they finally let us go after wasting a whole hour for nothing, or crime we didn't commit. When I tell my friends how much I hate Nigerian Police, they'll say I don't appreciate the government for free security, what security exactly?😞 Let me not unleash my anger. This is my report about the recent incident happening around me.

Bribery has been one of the simplest means the Nigerian police uses to deny us our right, most time they forcefully use the opportunity to extort money from us. The difference between what the Nigerian police are doing and rubbery act can be considered a slide distinct but in a legal form, I've experienced a lot of arrangements by them, false allegation even when you are not guilty of any crime.
Most time if you are find not guilty, of they'll look for a deceptive tactics to implicate you, police was meant to protect not to be a discomfort or a reason to run as being chased by a lion.
When issues like this keep happening who are we to report to, the Government???, who are the government when they are embodied with them. This same issue has been a crise for Nigerian citizens over some years now and nothing has been done, how do we do this for crying out loud 😭.
They've been overwhelmed with this ungodly behavior that the can't respect or recognize our creator again, imagine saying that "God also accept bribery", sounds so unpleasant to me as a human let alone the creator hmmmmmm I reserve my comment😥.
My brother, it's only God that can save us from this country. If we Nigerians were to unleash our anger, this comment section will be full of tears. Thanks for visiting my post with this valuable comment.
This is what people are facing on the road before they were saying criminals on the road, now is even the security guard that are doing the corruption,it a pity that Nigeria government can't do anything about it.
But I pray one day a radical leader will rules the nation and all these will stop
It's unfortunate. This is a menace I hope to be stopped.
I hope so too, it's getting out of hand.
