It's really not right how people are treated, sometimes. And it's sad to discover when supposedly "upstanding" developed countries turn out to not really care about people — shocking, really!
I'm sure just washing their hands and claiming "this happened under DDR rules" might be legally valid in some sense... but I thought the BRD/DDR re-unification was supposed to be a combination of resources? This situation you're describing sounds very sketchy.
Oh, I lost my illusions about reunification a long time ago. And the legal situation seems to be more than contradictory in this respect. In the end, it's probably the one with the better lawyer who gets justice. No matter how we feel about it...
