"SECS 8 Week 6: How do I want to grow old?"
Hello everyone, welcome to my post. In this post, i will be participating in the engagement challenge titled “ How do I want to grow old?" hosted by this beautiful community.
How do you want to age: healthy and energetic or limited and dependent on medications
One of my goal in life is to age healthy and energetic. I believe that no one would like to be a burden to their family while they age so it is prior for one to walk towards living a healthy lifestyle during their youth so that along the line, it becomes part of you. Living a limited life dependent on medications while you age drains one financially, physically and mentally and can put the person’s family on series of emotional turmoil.
Imagine working so hard to be financially stable and secure during your youth and when it is time for you to enjoy the fruit of your labor, you become sick, you spend most of your earnings on treating yourself and also you become restricted from doing a lot of things that you would have done if you were healthier. This is something that each and everyone of us wouldn’t pray to have while we age so it is imperative for us to discipline ourselves now in terms of being careful about what eat, drink, the kind of lifestyle we choose to live so that in the long run, we won’t have any health challenges that would deter us from enjoying the fruits of all our labor.
What are you doing to reach the old age you long for?
I try my best to inculcate the healthy living lifestyle. I carefully select the things I eat, ensure that I drink good water and exercise as often as I can. I try to go for a general body test thrice in a year in order to know my current health status and if I have any underlying illness that needs to be treated. I also try as much as possible to stay away from any association that is not good for my mental health (e.g toxic relationships). I try to embrace positivity as a lifestyle as well and to read good books that helps to improve my mindset.
Are you afraid of growing old? Yes or no? Justify your answer
Yes I am actually scared of growing old. The major reason for my fear of aging is because of the fact that I would have to watch my parents live this earth and I also have to watch most of the people I know die one after the other😕. I also tend to get worried and wonder if I would be able to achieve most of the I have planned to achieve in life before I start getting old.
The scariest feeling of them all is the fact that once someone starts getting old, they can leave this earth at any given time and no one knows for sure where the souls of people that die go to🤷🏽♀️. We only believe what we are told and what we were forced to believe because the truth is that no one has left this world and came back to tell us how it is on the other side so we don’t actually know for sure😂
Do you have any experience to share with us about an older adult who is an example for you to follow?
Yes I have an aunt that I looked up to soo much. I went to spend the holiday with her some time last two years when my school was observing the ASUU strike. The first time I arrived at her place, I was welcomed so well then I took my time to go around the house and look around. I was amazed as to how organized things were kept in the house despite having 4 little kids that weren’t in junior secondary yet . Over time as I stayed with her, I watched how she plans the affairs of the house including the meals for I , herself, her husband and her kids and I must say she ran her household very well even without having any helper around.
My stay at her place was an eye opener because it actually opened me up to the reality that one day I am going to have a household just like this and having a wife who understands the importance of putting the household in order as well as planning and organizing was very important. It goes a long way in affecting the psychic of a man positively and makes him feel at peace anytime he comes back home after a stressful day at work and it actually goes a long way in having a good impact on the children as well because it makes them to inculcate that kind of habit indirectly.

Hello friend, thank you very much for your entry, good that you think that way, old age is a cycle of our life and good to reach it healthy, healthy and energetic. I think it is a privilege for many to be able to reach certain ages, although what you mention about death is very true, I think most people are afraid of that moment.
I recommend you not to write such long paragraphs, a maximum of 7 lines is very good, so the publication does not look saturated. You can separate them in two.
Greetings and have a nice day.😊
Thanks for the review
This can be very disturbing, but you need to know that death is a certain thing, and while we all try to dodge away from that reality, it is something we have to face. You see when you get to that bridge, you will cross it. In the same way, people who are there currently have learned to cross you, so are you also going to learn to cross it.
Yeah, when we get there, we will definitely cross it by the grace of God. We know we all will leave this world one day, but we are all humans and we have emotions that’s why it’s scary to us despite the fact that it will definitely happen. Thanks for taking your time to go through my post.
I remember there was a time a was very scared of death and birth but since I started working at the hospital as an intern, I have learned that it is a normal phenomenom of life and should happen.
That’s nice, most times in life we just need experience to get used to something. People are born into this world and people leave this world too, it’s all part of life. We just need to live life the best we can.

I can relate to your fear of growing old as it's a natural feeling. Life is unpredictable, and we can't control everything, but we can control how we choose to live our lives. You have written well my friend. I wish you good luck in the contest! 😊
Yeah, no one can control life but we can control how we live it by the choices we make. we need to do is try our best and live the best we can.
Thanks for going through my post.
