Today I am going to participate in the Steemit Enagegement Challenge, Season#8 Week3. This week's theme given by Steemit Health community is very nice and important topic which is related to our health and that is "Smoking Kills".

Give your views about the phrase "Smoking Kills!".


Smoking kills are the most important and serious warning for human lives. People who smoke know really well that smoking is going to kill them but the addiction is so intense that they don’t even care about themselves. This phrase is important to understand and to take action and spread awareness among the people.

We all hear this phrase at the start of any smoking scene or at the start of any ad that contains content related to smoking but still smoking is there, those scenes are there.

No one is spreading awareness, they are just inviting more and more people towards such addictions. Addiction is very rarely cured and once you are addicted to smoking, leaving it becomes near to impossible because it spoils your taste and then you can’t become normal without smoking.


What are the main reasons why people become addicted to smoking?


There are different reasons for which people mostly start smoking. In my opinion the reason varies from age groups and mentality. Youngsters have their own reasons for starting smoking and adults may have some other reasons for it.

Mostly the youngsters of age 17- 25 age group have few reasons. Some start smoking because they want to look cool and they don’t want to be out grouped so they start smoking to be ingroup. This is the reason for most of the boys because their mentality is that cigarettes look cool and fancy but in reality there is nothing like that.

Youngsters also start smoking because of heart breaks or relaxing purposes. At this stage young people have a lot of energy within them but when they are not recognized by the society they think of themselves as useless and start smoking etc to keep their mind relaxed.

Adults have their own reasons for starting smoking, adults mostly when they graduate have no jobs, they are worried for their career, their job, marriage and most of the time they don’t really share their stress with anyone and at that time smoking becomes their friend and gives them relief once it becomes the reason for their relaxation they become addicted.

Are you addicted to smoking, or someone you may know who is addicted to smoking? What changes have you seen after addiction?


No, Thanks to almighty Allah that I am not addicted to smoking but I know some people who smoke and you can identify a smoker from afar. Obviously I don’t have any close friends who smoke but I had some observations from my surroundings.

I had observed and studied in many articles that when a smoker becomes addicted it changes their mind, body and their whole personality. Addiction itself is a curse for human life whether it's anything but when it's smoking, you slowly and gradually lose control over your mind and then your body because it harms your nerves which makes you unable to think or differentiate between what is right and what is wrong.

In my opinion smokers become more harsh in language, rude in attitude and cut themselves most of the time from the society and become socially alone and live in their own zone.

What should we do to reduce the rate of smoking addiction?


  • A person once addicted is hard to cure and leaves smoking. What we can do is to find ways to prevent people from becoming smokers and then become addicted.
  • We can spread awareness among the youth that smoking can harm your physical and mental health and destroy your life in a silent manner.
  • We can educate our children, family members and close friends to never ever take a single puff from a cigarette because once that smoke touches your mouth it can hardly be removed back. The person then wants to taste it again and again and in this manner it becomes an addiction.
  • We should organise more fun and creative activities for the young people to participate in and keep them doing healthy activities so that they don’t have time for such things.
  • Help addicts in such a way by removing or reducing exposure to those things that triggers them and due to which they want to smoke.

You have rightly said that smoking is very dangerous thing for our health, I also agree with you that these victims of smoking are mostly people between the ages of 17 and 25. It is quite right that we should make children participate in healthy activities so that they stay away from such bad activities. Youngsters have lots of energy now it’s upto us how we utilise it, healthy activities can help youngsters convert that energy into positive ones and which will keep them away from reaching out any unhealthy activities.
