Set achievable goals.

An important part of staying consistent with yoga is setting achievable goals. Start small and build momentum as you progress. A good goal to start with is committing to 5 minutes of practice every day. As you progress, you can gradually increase the intensity, duration, and frequency of your practice. Remember that even small steps forward can make a significant difference in your journey to reach your desired outcome.

Schedule a specific time for your practice.

Scheduling a specific time for your practice makes it more likely you’ll make yoga a priority. It creates an opportunity to develop a routine and consistency so that your daily practice can become a habit. Try to carve out an hour, or at least 30 minutes each day — even if it’s just in the morning or before bed — when you can devote your full focus to your practice. Morning is often ideal because it helps increase energy levels throughout the day, but find what works best for you and stick with it each day. Build intentional breaks into your schedule for contemplation, self-inquiry, or relaxation.

Find a quiet place and make it comfortable

Make your practice space comfortable and tranquil. Having the same props nearby during your practice allows you to focus more on your poses without having to search for supplies each time. Typical yoga props include blocks, blankets, and a bolster to help provide optimal alignment and comfort. Keeping these items in the same place allows you to move confidently through poses, rather than spending extra time gathering materials in between them.

Prioritize consistency over perfection.

While it can be tempting to prioritize perfection in your yoga practice, it’s more important to stay consistent with completing your practice daily. Some days, you may find it difficult to get through the full session or even just a few poses. Don’t give up! Take your time and appreciate the journey, rather than trying to push too far and get frustrated.
