My 5 Minute Freewrite : Positive Development | @mosin-nagant
Fourteen years ago, little Jack was brought by his father to a campaign event in a field south of town where hundreds of people gathered to show their support for Hendrix Borton, the presidential candidate from the left-wing party that adheres to an adaptive system of capitalism. Because of the understanding brought by Borton and his party, he is considered a reformer and the last hope for a broken country.
George, Jack's father, was arguably one of the party's militant supporters. For the party, he was even considered a warhead for the black campaign movement against Borton's opponents, therefore, when the president won a landslide victory by a margin of 1 million votes from William Sanders, George got a position as head of the propaganda division in the special committee of the party led by Borton.
On the field that day, Jack was put on a party hat by his father. He even exploited his son with a stenciled T-shirt with a Borton face. Both on hats and t-shirts, there are words that become important sentences for party propaganda in attracting mass sympathy, namely "towards positive development with socialism."
That day Borton was standing on stage with his neck full of auburn flowers and a sash crossed over his chest with the words "Future President." He gave a fiery speech, just like the demagogue.
"Look, Jack," shrieked his father as he stood among the euphoric crowd, "look how cool our Honorable Mr Borton is."
Jack didn't actually hear what his father was saying because the crowd was too loud. As a child, he didn't even understand why his father had brought him there, until today, where George is again standing among the hundreds of people marching toward the palace building to overthrow the president, Borton.
Unlike that time, this time George was not accompanied by Jack. That day counted as two days for the anti-regime mobs occupying the square in the south which became the central location for the city.
What happened? Since Borton's first lead, investment has been massive, foreign companies have invested in their branches with the aim of exploiting natural resources on a large scale. Unfortunately, Borton never explained that he was also driving a chemical research company until the accident, where a canister containing an artificial virus exploded and spread the terror of death with him.
In the early days, the media still turned a blind eye to Borton's rule. There is no news that explains why suddenly dozens of people die in a week simultaneously with the same symptoms, namely bodies that dry up and shrink as if wracked by such great thirst.
Jack is still a student as well as an enthusiastic novice journalist, secretly investigating and finding a map of the causes of the strange case, until it all turns to a chemical company that is half owned by the president. George, who knew what his son was doing, immediately warned Jack to stop.
Jack ignores his father's urgings and continues to investigate and even publicly fight back through an article entitled, "the president's toxic stock", until one night some of his father's one-party acquaintances came to the house to join in with the warning and snarled at Jack with threats. This time, it was George who came forward, expelling his party colleague because he could not bear to see his son being treated like that, so rumors that it was George who took the initiative to overthrow the president through Jack's investigation immediately surfaced within the party.
George is still trying to rectify the situation, but when Jack's body is found floating with his face covered in bruises, he begins to realize that these are political consequences that are hard enough for him to accept. He also realized that he could not stand idly by with his condition, and then immediately put up a fight, revealing the facts through documents kept by his son.
On this day, he stands in front with the masses, but, unfortunately he is not with little Jack and the words, "positive development" as he forced his son. |
