CUSTOMER IS KING, EMPLOYEE IS THE QUEEN

THE GAME OF CHESS

The Game of Chess usually alludes to a game of strategy particularly for war. All pieces on the board can be arranged in such a way that you conquer the opponent strategically and win.

In the game of chess, the King is to be protected as the capture of the King means a loss. thus, the King is protected by all the pieces on the board, Pawns, Rooks, Knights, Bishops, and the Queen.

Each piece has specific movements over the board; some only one direction or two directions while the knight is scattered though controlled but one deadly piece is the queen.
she is an embodiment of skills of all pieces on the board and more. bring her out, harness her power and she's a WMD (Weapon of Mass Destruction).

As powerful as she is, if you do not know how or when to use her, you will still lose the game. The King however has very limited powers, moving only few paces around.

In my opinion the, the popular mantra among business owners that "Customer Is King" has been abused greatly.
Business owners and Entrepreneurs keep chanting this while treating their staff anyhow, poor pay, poor working conditions, lack of sufficient tools for working, unreasonable expectations from staff, overworking staff etc. yet expecting them to produce excellence.

The staff isn't but must treat the customer exceptionally well because "Customer Is King". True but "Employee is the Queen" and an unhappy staff bring you down, that is ruin your whole business.

Learning about Costco Wholesale, a warehouse retail company in the US emphasized some of my beliefs in business management. If your company will survive and customers are treated right, you must also treat your employees right. Costco is known for paying their employees very well, the highest among retailers in the US.

This has made their employees happy and they treat customers better than other retails stores.
From feedbacks I've read, people have worked there for decades and enjoy it, some come back as part time staff.
Why? Aside the great Pay of $16-$24 per hour basic, insurance, free executive membership for staff and other benefits, Costco beats many companies in employee treatment.

Costco has had people work there for decades and not want to leave. unfortunately, people compared Costco to Amazon and it was not pretty for Amazon.
Based on current economic and global trends, e-commerce is a big market and Amazon is the leader there.

Some years ago while working in a school, we were processing new students and a parent told us that the teacher in her child's former school told her to remove her child from the school and bring the child to our school. My friend and I were shocked!

The parent said she didn't have any complain about the school but because the teacher told her she moved the child. after they left, my friend said the teacher must have been treated poorly by the school for him/her to have said that.
We learned a big lesson that day, treat staff right.

As a business owner, I've been opportune to staff at various times and one thing I've realized is treat people right.

There are people I would call for a job and would answer me immediately because I treated them well when they worked with me and I did not owe them a dime. I've suffered loss from customers but my staff must be paid what we agreed.

They would not and should not bear my loss in business.
Sometimes you call people to work for you and they posting you, check yourself, did you treat them right? were you fair? Treat the employees right and they will handle your job beyond your imagination.

Finally:
Dear business owner, how you treat your staff matters a lot, they may not be king but as queen they keep the king safe.
If you want to increase customers and sales in the long run, treat your staff well, the would treat your customers right.
