The rock temple (mulgirigala temple)

Today I am presenting about a historical place of ancient value. The rock is beautifully made into a royal temple and is made of magnificent stone carvings .

The past story of this temple or rock temple is very beautiful. This place is located in the village of Beliatta in the Hambantota District of the Southern Province. This place has a royal royal connection. This was done during the reign of King Walagamba. It is said that the Vedda people or an aboriginal person informed the king about this place and hence it became known as Mu Kiwu Gala at that time.

In this rock, the skill of the stone carver of that time is well displayed. The paintings, carvings, dagobas and statues are beautifully finished here. The stairs here are made of stone as a walkway. The rock is also full of trees and medicinal plants. Ponds have been constructed in this rock to meet the water requirement. Both locals and foreigners come here to see this magnificent and beautiful rock.

Speaking of the pond here, the ponds are made of rock that runs through the rock itself. It remains a mystery as well as a wonder how the pond gets watered throughout the year.

This rock is also known as Little Sigiriya. These creations show the proud history of the Sri Lankan people. It is our duty to preserve such creations in a systematic way for the future.
