Talking to Trees: on World Environment Day || @aasifwanisteemCreated with Sketch.

A thin patch of the forest lies merely 2 Kilometers away from my residence. Having faced massive deforestation it can not be described as forest anymore. But there is a great need to preserve what is left out of it.

Today, I went to talk to these trees and I could feel the fear they are living in. Anticipating to be axed 🪓 by wood smugglers, some of the trees have already infused the earth with their blood and have preferred to die their own death before being axed down.

These greedy men have wiped the once-dense forest into non-existence. Although there are a lot of laws in India and globally as well prohibiting the cutting down of trees, the forest area continues to decrease. According to this report,

"Between 2015 and 2020, the rate of deforestation was estimated at 10 million hectares per year, down from 16 million hectares per year in the 1990s. The area of primary forest worldwide has decreased by over 80 million hectares since 1990."

Many reasons could be attributed to mass deforestation: Agricultural expansion, industrialisation and crony materialism are few among them.
Let us pledge to preserve forests. It is our collective duty!
