4x4 X-treme Off-Roader Lego build two: Grouchy lends a hand

in LEGO4 years ago

It finally happened...My little grouchy buddy, Grouchy, decided to build some Lego. To be more precise he commandeered my Lego build and didn't leave me anything to do! I'm not too fussed though, as it got stage two built and we had fun nonetheless.

You can see him pictured above with the final result of the build...Now only one stage to go and it'll be driving!

Stage two is the construction of the rear of the vehicle, the axle, differential and some body-section which holds one of the three motors plus the power-plant. Above you can see it starting to come together. Grouchy needed to slide underneath on a few occasions as you can see, however before long the build started to take shape.

This stage of the build took a few hours with a coffee and Oreo break in the middle, although I'll admit I was dunking Oreo's in my coffee for most of the build, and yes, Grouchy likes Oreo's too, evidenced below.

Once the rear axle section was complete it was time to marry it up to the the front. The images below show that process.

You can see Grouchy pulling the two sections together in the below left image and then it was time to work on the power-plant in the central image below. This was quite technical as you can tell from Grouchy's face of concentration!

The image below right shows a close up of the power-plant with the three motors plugged in. This was an annoying part for me Grouchy as the cables needed to be arranged in a particular manner and retained properly to prevent fouling once the 4x4 is actually working and moving around - It worked out though and I managed to make it neat.

In case you don't know, this Lego model actually operates like remote controlled car - I'll drive it around!

One of the cool features is the articulation in the body. if you have a look at the main image at the top you'll note there's a big round thing in the front of the model. The rear section built in stage two also has one. These two assemblies mean the main body section can actually pivot side to side, inside the main front-and rear-axle section, giving better articulation as the 4x4 off-roads in rough terrain. It's pretty cool. I may need to do a video of it to properly show you and will do so as part of stage three.

Anyway, there you have it...Stage two complete. It's quite exciting really as in the not too distant future I'll get stage three completed and we'll be out in the wilderness hitting the tracks!

I have to be honest, Grouchy did a pretty good job, only making one mistake requiring a little back-tracking but it was nothing that caused too much fuss.

I'm looking forward to this one getting finished and to getting it working. I hope it all works ok otherwise I might be really angry, although at least I can blame Grouchy if it all goes pear-shaped!

Thanks for reading y'all!

Motorised legos! It doesn't get much better than that, now does it? Especially with oreo cookies. It's like a little piece of paradise in a bunch of little bricks!

Lego and Oreo's are like a party all by themselves...Add in motorised Lego and it's like that party in 1999 that Prince sang about. Lol.

I think Grouchy is keen for a ride in it once it's built 🤣

I reckon so too. He'll get his wish...Crash test dummy Grouchy!

Lol Grouchy the crash test dummy.

Is stage 3 the last stage? That looks pretty intense XD You and Grouchy look like you've done good work. I'm pretty sure he wants you to hurry up just so he can drive it around ;D

Sure is...Only 950 bits to this build. Stage three gets the bodywork and wheels on and then it'll fire up for the first time...Hopefully!

Yeah, Grouchy is going to be the crash test dummy. He'll get a kick out of that.

lol..yay Grouchy! He deserves a beer or two after all that work!

Three probably, knowing the young lad. He deserved it though. 🙂

lol..yes he earned it!

Looking pretty great there, mate! The build seems to be going along nicely, especially with some extra helping hands. It looks like Grouchy's proving to be a pretty great helper, and a good mechanic, too. An Oreo or two seems like a worthwhile reward for Grouchy's hard work, though I struggle to understand how his tiny anatomy could absord even half of it...

Any gal that eats Oreo's like that is a keeper! Just saying. Lol

Build is looking good. Should be done next week. Then it's crash test dummy grouchy!

Just make sure Grouchy is wearing his helmet!
