SEC S17W1: "Let's Celebrate the Arts".

in RECREATIVE STEEMlast month

There's nothing more cherished than art in the world. Everything we see i life are products of art, imagination and creativity. The skies we see was designed beautifully by someone greater than we are. The aircrafts we see today from birds structures are designed as means of transportation.

Art extends from just physically drawing or painting. It also has to do with modelling, sculpturing and designs. The following are sculptures that can make you appreciate art to the core. The art I'll be talking about will give you information on the following areas.

  • cultural heritage
  • The ancient times where hunting and farming were prevalent
  • Hardwork pays
  • Academic stress
  • The woman that stopped the killing of twins
  • Ability in disability
  • Pastor spreading the word of God.......
Hard work pays

There's a saying no food for a lazy man and that whatever a man sews, this he'll reap. There's also another saying that God's time is the best Many in the world are working extremely hard to survive in life. Life is basically on the survival of the fittest. If you don't struggle, you'll be left desolate or dead.

That's why this sculpture shows the energy, the strength this man is using to dig out something important to him. The hammer he's using is entangled by a chain that seems to be more like a barrier to his doing this thing with ease. It becomes heavier for him and saps his strength.

He have to forge ahead despite the barrier in other to achieve what he wants. Same is applicable to us. We work tirelessly, under the sun, 18 hours daily and in trying situations just to feed ourselves and our family, provide basic necessities and other things of which survival is bound. Some day, you'll live to eat the fruit of your labour without needing to work this hard.

Cultural heritage

This sculpture depicts a popular cultural heritage in Nigeria as a whole called Ekpo Masquerade. This culture has been cherished by most tribes and they regard it as a God sometimes. They find pleasure in playing these masquerade as they feel it is connected to some traditions and artistic practices.

When they wear these masks on their faces to scare people, the people they scare derived joy and fun. They play with it and some of the masquerades masks are always beautiful and ugly at the same time, designed in a way that enhance breathing. To me, I don't fancy it but it's always a conditioned sculpture placed or made for heroes or chiefs that has died.

Academic Stress

This art portrays a student with lots of books before him. From his facial expression, he looks tired and weak. The story behind this art of that this student is a Nigerian student and from experiences, it's noted that student life is not easy. We undergo stress of attending lectures, and reading lots of books combined with other activities like practicals and the likes of them.

PXL_20231220_140416125.PORTRAIT.jpg

He has lots of books to read, probably with an exams the next day. How can one probably read all these books in a short period of time without getting knocked in the brain? These are the stress we face as students.

This sculpture is made to give us a clue to how academic life is. It's not that easy but we can make it less stressful for us .

The ancient times where hunting and farming were prevalent

This sculptures were made to portray the ancient days thousand years back. This was the life lived back then where crude tools were used and hunting animals were on the high. This is how people survived in the past before the introduction or advent of technology and introduction to a new life. This sculpture also portrays how life is made easy now compared to before in some instances.

PXL_20231220_140340240.PORTRAIT.jpg

This art reads a lot of meaning to how people used to work hard to earn a living for themselves. Money wasn't really the major then. Acquiring possessions, farm products, lands etc were the major priority.

Ability in disability

This art reads a lot of meaning in the lives of those who feel because of their present condition, they can't make it in life. This art shows how a disabled man was able to do his trust pushing business with one arm.

PXL_20231108_103600689.PORTRAIT.jpg

Everyone knows that truck pushing business needs strength and both hands to succeed. The work is a very tedious work and can be very discouraging sometimes. If this man can do this work with one arm, any disabled person can do anything even if not physically. I'm always impressed by the person who did this art. He did a lot of great work with details in its meaning.

These arts are not just structures. They read meaning in the minds of those who view it and these selected sculptures made in a school environment encourage and inform. Art is

  • knowledge
  • wealth
  • information
  • motivation and the
  • Future

Hi there, @bossj23...It is exciting to see these sculptures which were excellently created by artist in a way to send a message and communicate to people about different areas of life. The Ekpo masquerade too is an art work depicting the Ekpo culture in Akwa ibom state. I can see other artworks and they are beautiful. Artworks and artist should be celebrated every time. You wrote well. Kudos

Indeed art and culture are very cherished in the world because it makes the world to look more beautiful than it was.
Hard work definitely pays that is why we should always put seriousness in what ever we are doing, just like the art work of the man who has shown great strength and digging wht is very important to him that is how we all should do.

Masquerade is another cultural heritage that you will find in almost all the part of the country, popularly known as ekpo an attire wear by humans like us but we will be scared of them especially when i was young 😅😅 each time i see ekpo i will run for my life.

I remember you sharing one or two of these images way back, and it made such an impression on me. How glad am I that you could now share more and put a story behind it.

I will name this collection of art, "Men at Work!"
And now I wonder if this artist or artists will ever bring out "Woman at Work" sculptures.

Thank you for inviting me. I enjoyed your post.

Indeed a great saying. I love sculptural work too and they have a way of speaking voulumes silently. Weldone and success

Wow. Thanks for appreciating my piece of art. I'm impressed.

You’re welcome ☺️

In general, art transmits messages, they are representations made in a specific historical context, you have interpreted them in your own way and it is valid, that is art. Each one looks at it from his own point of view, of course the author has his own vision of weight.

Wonderful sculptures that show part of the art in your country.

Appreciated. I've learnt from this comment too.
