Dinner Night Recipe - Rice and Stew [Red Sauce] Preparation

Who doesn't like a good meal? A meal you prepare and serve either hot or cold. There's nothing more comfortable and nutritious than eating food made with your hands. You know how to make it delicious in your own way, the spices to add, and the ingredients you're not fond of.

The major challenge of cooking one's meal is time, as most people are workers, students, and run businesses. Little wonder they purchase foods from vendors, restaurants, eateries, and stalls.

Talking about the food I prepared, it's one of the most cooked foods on weekends. I don't know why this food is slated for weekends, but it just has the best fit forSaturdays and Sundays. Let's talk about it.

Rice and Stew [About]

Rice is a popular carbohydrate eaten in countries around the globe. The rice is of different types, and it depends on where you're from and which locality. In my country, we have long grain, short grain, local rice, sand-free, etc. The long grain is very expensive; that's why the majority go for local rice and sand free rice. These are less expensive and affordable, even in bags.

This rice is carbohydrate-filled, and it gives you energy. Rice is one of the most cooked foods in my country, and the perfect combinations for this rice can be;

  • rice and beans
  • rice and stew
  • rice and curry sauce
  • rice and pepper soup
  • rice and soup, etc

These are the various combinations of rice and what they can be eaten with. It contains starch, which helps in energy production as an energy-giving food. The stew acts as a complement to make the rice sweet, as it would be very weird to eat white rice just like that. So now come the ingredients I used in preparing this delicious meal.

In preparing rice and stew, there are ingredients or foodstuffs you need to make this possible. I bet 80% know how to boil rice. It's the stew a lot of people are afraid of making because of the complexity of preparation.

Methods of Preparation

In preparing rice and stew, either you boil the rice first, put both on fire if you have space for heating, or you cook the stew first. Now, let's assume we are boiling the rice first, as I did.

  • I measured 5 cups of rice since it's for the family and washed the rice properly before putting it inside the pot with clean water. Then you ensure that the water is above the rice by 3 meters or less, and then heat it till the water starts boiling and the rice is soft compared to how it was at the onset.

  • After this, I parboiled the rice and then washed it using a filter so the rice wouldn't flow out or go to waste. When you're done filtering, you put the rice back into the pot and then add water to level..... Put a teaspoon of salt as a measurement until you get your desired taste, and allow it to boil and dry. Your rice is ready.

  • While waiting for the rice to be done, you must have prepared your ingredients and get ready to fry the tomatoes for stew purposes. You'll take measurements of groundnut oil to surface the pot you're using so as to spread the tomatoes used. I used sachets of tomatoes, and I didn't just empty them as paste. I ensured I added water to make it watery, but thick a bit. The addition of water made the tomato paste increase.

  • I placed an empty pot on fire and then poured the groundnut oil and allowed it to heat for some minutes before adding my sliced onions to fry. I maintained composure for 3 minutes before adding my thick paste to fry as well. It was then that I put most of the spices and ingredients and allowed them to sit for some minutes before adding my chicken pepper soup water to the tomatoes.

  • This increased the quantity of the stew and gave it a taste. Allowing the heat to settle on the contents for a while ensured the tomatoes were heated to the brim. Then, you take out your sliced curry leaf as the last thing and stir the pot. Allow for some minutes before bringing it off the heat. Your stew is ready. The protein was in the pepper soup.

This is a picture of me with my prepared rice and stew. It was at night that I made this recipe; that's why the picture isn't that clear. There are health benefits to eating this meal, and one of them is that it contains all six classes of food and helps nurture the body and its systems.
