SEC17 WK:#1: Forgiveness unites family
What is Forgiveness?
Forgiveness is a powerful yet transformative act that requires great strength and courage. Forgiveness is not for the weak but done by someone strong enough to let bygones be bygones.
It's the strong ability to let go of resentment, heal from past hurt and still be able to move forward with grace and compassion, having no ill thoughts towards your neighbor.
Why is forgiveness important?
- When someone forgives, they are not excusing the wrongdoer's actions or denying the pain they must have felt in the situation. Instead, they forgive because they are choosing to release themselves from the burden of anger and bitterness, thereby feeling their hearts and minds from the negative emotions of constantly thinking about the situation weighing them down.
- Forgiveness is a great gift we can give ourselves. By giving ourselves the power to break free from pain and negativity. By empowering us to take control of our emotions rather than allow people or a problem to dictate how we should feel.
- Forgiveness is a great tool because it provides an opportunity to open up space taken up by hatred and grudges for new opportunities, new relationships, and new experiences. Instead of holding grudges and sulking in pain, we allow ourselves to move forward with a lighter and clearer mind.
How forgiveness united my family
Forgiveness does go a long way to unite the family. I remember two years ago, in the heat of the moment my elder brother flared up, and spoke angrily at my mom just before he travelled back to his base.
Why? The problem ensued from a disagreement he had with my Aunt. My mom heard about the issue and, in a worried state called my elder brother to figure out what happened and speak sense into him.
My elder brother got angry that my mom had already concluded that he was at fault and was supporting my Aunt without hearing his side too. This caused a huge rift between my Mom and elder brother, and by proxy made a gap in the family. If a meeting is called, he would come, and he would not pick up my Mom's calls.
This issue went on for months until later after 6 months when he came for the church dedication of my niece. My brother apologized to my mom, for how he acted rudely, and held grudges. He further confirmed that she shouldn't have taken out the anger on my mom but would have settled whatever differences he had.
Thankfully, both were able to reconcile and everything was forgiven. The house was calmer when everyone was happy.
Conclusion
In conclusion, forgiveness is not a sign of weakness; rather, it's a testament and a witness of one's inner strength and resilience.
The strength in the choice taken to prioritize our own well-being and growth, thereby living a fulfilling life for ourselves and those around us.
If you have hatred, everyone around you will feel it, likewise, if you feel free, everyone around you will breathe better. Forgiveness is a strong tool and should not be taken lightly, as it paves the way for a brighter and more peaceful future in our family.

Hello friend, very true, we often choose to forgive to free ourselves from resentment, it doesn't mean that we forget things, we simply turn the page for our well being.
It is great the attitude of your family member, she was able to reflect and ask for forgiveness from her mother, the family must stay united.
Forgiveness is letting bygones be bygones, that's a very sharp definition from you. Forgiveness is great. Because of one issue, we couldn't gather together in peace. It helped a lot in resolving the rift in my family and yes, both my mom and brother reconciled.
