Story Title:
Jealousy

"Twins", as there were known by some, "sisters" by others. Mary and Magdalene were close friends who grew up together and also happened to have a striking resemblance to each other.
Though they had no blood or family connections, most people believed they were siblings while others went as far as calling them twins.

Mary and Maggie (as she was fondly called) didn't just grow up together, they attended the same schools right from childhood. They did almost everything together and this gave people more reasons to believe they were more than just friends.
This relationship continued until it was time for them to get into higher institutions. Though Mary and Maggie were close friends, Mary was quite better with books compared to Maggie. Maggie wasn't dumb, but she also couldn't measure up to Mary in that aspect. However, what she lacked in academics, she fully covered up for in the social aspect of life.

Mary always wanted to be a lawyer while Magdalene had more interest in acting, her dreams were to be seen on screen in a movie by her parents. They both worked hard and together towards their different goals and desires.

While they practiced for the exams which will qualify them for higher institution, Mary frequently had the highest scores. This brought different thoughts and feelings to Maggie.
She was both jealous and desperate as she constantly performed badly during their practice exams. Instead of looking for a way to do better, she became jealous of someone who did better. This would have been okay if it ended with her feelings but then.....she acted on her feelings.

On the day of their real exams, Mary was to write by 8:00am and Maggie, by 8:30am (a one hour exams). By 7:00am, they were together studying more for their exams when Maggie brought out a drink and insisted they had it before their exams.
Mary who was saturated with studying decided to use that as an opportunity for a break before heading out for her exams, so she conceded to having the drink not knowing Maggie had other plans.

Maggie took the drink to the kitchen and poured it into two different cups, a yellow and blue cup. Blue for herself and yellow for her friend, Mary. She quickly added medicine into her friends drink, something to make her sleep off after 10-20 minutes.
When she was done, she brought out the drinks and handed the yellow cup to her friend while she kept her blue cup on the table and rushed back to the kitchen to clean up the mess she made while pouring the drinks and medicine.

Mary on the other hand had strong liking for blue, even the dress she was wearing that day was a blue one so seeing that they was a blue cup of drink, she decides to take thar one instead. So she drank from the blue cup but in order not to Maggie upset, she turned her drink from the yellow cup to the blue cup since to her, it was the same drinks.
Immediately she had the drink, she bid her friend goodbye and rushed out since she was to have her exams before Maggie. Seeing that she was gone, Maggie came out in happiness and drank from the blue cup.

This became a situation of being hit by one's bullet. Maggie fell asleep after a while and slept through her exams time. Mary who finished her exams decided to walk home so she can meet Maggie who's exams was to end by 9:00am.
On reaching Magdalene's house, Mary met her sleeping. She thought she must have been stressed from the exams so she allowed her to sleep.

Coming back to check on her later in the day, Mary met her crying and screaming loudly while people gathered to console her. Deeply confused, she walked up to Maggie trying to console her and also inquire what was wrong. Maggie then asked her about the drink she took and Mary explained what she did with the drinks due to her love for blue.

Hearing this Maggie sobbed even more and finally confessed to adding sleeping medicine to the drink she gave her in the yellow cup. Mary who never expected this was surprised and sad as well. She never imagined her only close friend could have such bad plans concerning her.

This incident ended their friendship though they reconciled but the friendship is no more. Mary, as expected passed her exams and move on which Magdalene had to wait another year.

THE END

Morals from the story
  • Jealousy destroys friendships.

  • Be careful and observant in choosing the friends you keep.

  • You can end up falling into your own trap so avoid evil thoughts and actions.

  • Do to others only what you would want they to do to you too.
