Wednesday – I spy with my little eye – Mini contest (25) Answer by @ukpono | 08/01/2023
Hello, kids and parents
Happy new year to you! It is the first week in 2023 and guess what…it is another fun time to play, learn and win with @patjewell.
For last week's spy game, we were to find a word that begins with L. These four unique clues were given to aid participants.
- It is a 10-letter word
- It can turn something into something else
- It is very versatile
- The synonym for this item starts with a "B"
Can you attempt this? The answer has been provided in this link
Down to the main business for today…
As you might have guessed, the spy game is back again this year and for this week's mini-contest, the initial letter of the spied word is P. I'll be attempting this using the four clues below as my guide:
- It is a 10-letter word
- It is a compound word
- It is associated with small
- It can be an insult
The possible answer should be "petty thief."
Using the clues provided, the word "petty thief" consists of 10 letters.
Also, it is a compound word because it is composed of two stems (petty and thief). In English, compound words are usually separated with a hyphen, space or no space at all. e.g crybaby (no space), in-law (hyphen) and petty thief (with a space/gap).
Each of these words has their meanings. The word "petty" is associated with small. It implies that something is tiny or insignificant.
Thief, on the other hand, is rather derogatory. It refers to a person who exhibits socially unacceptable behaviour like picking up things that belong to others without their consent. Hence it is an insult to address someone as a petty thief. This word is best fit for burglars or pickpockets.
Do you think my answer is correct?
