Always be honest, Dishonesty never pays

A very long time ago, there was a greedy man whose name was Ahun. He liked everything to be his own. He could not share anything with anyone, not even his friends and family members.

One day, Ahun lost 40 gold coins. He was very sad. He went to his friend's house and told him about the loss. His friend was a kind man and showed concern for the lost coin.

Few hours later, as Ahun's friend's daughter was coming from the market, she found 40 gold coins. When the girl arrived home, she told her father Ahun's friend what she had found on her way back from the market. The girl's father immediately her that the gold coins belonged to his friend Ahun and he sent for him.

When the greedy man arrived, his friend told him how his daughter had found this 40 gold coins and handed them to Mr. Ahun. Mr. Ahun did not thank his friend nor his daughter.

After counting the gold coins, the greedy man said that ten gold coins were missing and accused his friend's daughter of dishonesty. He angrily vowed to recover the remaining amount from his friend and his daughter, and left in anger.

Ahun promptly sued his friend and daughter, and the judge sent for the girl and her father. When they arrived, the judge asked the girl how many gold coins she for found. She replied, 'Forty gold coins' The judge then asked the greedy man how many gold coins he had lost, and he answered, 'Fifty gold coins.'

The judge then told the greedy man, Mr. Ahun that the gold coins did not belong to him because the girl found 40 and not 50 gold coins as he claimed to have lost. He then told the girl to take the 40 gold coins and that if anybody began to look for them, he would send for her. The judge told the greedy man that if anybody reported that they had found 50 gold coins, he would send for him. It was then that Mr. Ahun confessed that he had lied and that he actually lost 40 gold coins. But the judge gave him a deaf ear.

Moral lessons

  • We shouldn't be greedy
  • Always be honest; dishonesty never pays.

From the story, we have seen that honesty is the best policy.

Very good for Mr Ahun, he was a dishonest selfish and ungrateful man. I like the judgement given by Judge, indeed honesty pays!
