Transportation is a very important factor in our everyday lives. Be it business, vacations, trips or emergencies none of this would be achievable without transportation. Join me in todays contest as we look at transportation under the following questions as put forward by our host @udyliciouz.

Question 1: What is transportation?

Transportation is simply the movement of goods and services from one point to another. Since time immemorial, man has always carried out the business of transport. Using his feets, beasts of burdens such as camels and donkeys, wagons and carriages pulled by animals , bicycles, motorbikes, Cars, trains, ship and boats. Etc.

The picture above is a popular scene in my locality, we have various means transportation depending on the location one is going to and how fast he wants to go.

Short distances are travelled by trekking or the popular commercial tricycle popularly known as "keke". However, a much quicker option is the mortocycle populary known as "okada" here. The only disadvantage of the "okada" is the fact that it cannot take more than 2 passengers and it is not permitted in most cities as they cause serious traffic problems.

Taxi, Big passenger buses, cars, trains, canoes, ships and airplanes are the other different means of transport in my country. They all depend on the users choice, distance and the amount of money one is willing to spend on transportation.

Donkeys, horses and camels are still used in the northern part of my country mainly for transport of goods across the Saharan desert and sports respectively.

Question 3: What are the benefits of transportation?

We have many benefits here are a few of them;

• Ease of movement from one place to another.

• Emergencies can be attended to faster

• Transportation makes life easier as goods and services don't have to take ages to meet their destinations

• Transport facilities like ships, submarines and speed boats makes crossing water bodies possible.

• Migration which helps depopulation and retention of resources is made possible, all thanks to transportation

• Transport plays the role of Cupid by making it possible to meet Friends, families, and loved ones.

• Air travels are less stressful and less busy hence, and intercontinental destination can be reached in matter of few days. we have transport to thank

• Transport helps our kids by providing facilities such as school buses, Mobile canteens etc. This saves time

• Transport is saves time and most importantly provides a source of employment

Question 4: Mention two means of air transport

Air transport is the movement of goods and services through the skies....it is something that looks and sounds impossible yet technology has made it possible. They include:

• Aeroplanes commercial planes take people to their destination via booked flights and proper clearance with the airport authorities. The commercial plane is a very large bird that can accommodate 150 - 300 persons including the flight personnels.

• Jets: land traffic can be so cumbersome, a trip through a jet is sure to get you to your destination the time in few breaths. A jet is so fast that you literally just see the trail whenever it's moving. However, it is so expensive that only people with great wealth can get themselves a private jet.

Question 5: Mention and explain three means of water transport

Water transport refers to the means used to move goods and services across water bodies.

Yacht:

A yacht is a pleasure boat used to cross seas. It is very luxurious in nature, and is mostly used by the affluent as it is very expensive to board or rent. A yacht ride is however an unforgettable pleasure ride. So, if you are probably thinking of where you can spend your next holiday with your kids or lover the yatch is yout best bet.

The Submarine

The submarine is one of the most beautiful way of crossing the sea while witnessing the beauty of underwater flora and fauna as well as rare underwater animal. The submarine is very expensive and is found mostly in advance countries and are used for war and research.

Canoe:

Since ancient times, the canoe has always been a sustainable means of transport across water bodies. The canoe is still very much in use today especially in the riverine areas. Albeit very slow and time consuming the canoe is the most cheapest source of transport across the sea or river. To the fishermen the canoe and its paddle is the most reliable transport and fishing aid. Paddling a canoe canbe a great source of relaxation and a way to free one's mind. Why not try doing that this weekend.
