Computer lesson 5 – OPERATING SYSTEM

It’s another lesson on Computer Studies for this week, guess what? it's Our Fifth class. And it's Becoming More interesting.

As I announced last week, our topic for this week is Operating systems. What really is it? Trust me this topic is vast and I will make it Very Simple and I will take it bit by bit.

As We know now, an entire computer system is made up of Software and Hardware. And as the name implies, hardware refers to the Computer sections or parts where we can see, touch, or feel, can you think of their Examples?

Whereas Software is a set of programs that perform simple or complex tasks in a Computer System.

Now, for this Software to operate Efficiently, It needs good ground or a Special program to grant them access to operate without which, it can’t, and that Special Program is Operating System.

Let’s take a look at Operating System.

Operating System

Operating System is a System Software that acts as an interface between the Computer hardware and Software and Controls the execution of all kinds of programs. So in Other words, It Manages the whole resources that made Up the Computer System. In fact, Without an Operating System, a Computer Can’t Work, it would useless.

It would also be important to note that there are two kinds of Operating systems which are the Single User and Multi-User.

Their differences are Simple as the name implies. A Single User Operating System allows only One person to Operate it at a given time whereas a Multi-User operating System allows many people to use it at a particular Computer system at the same time, in this situation, one particular Computer is attached to other Computers.

Why Is It Important?

We need an operating system in other to Communicate With a computer. Remember that you can’t just talk to your computer directly, but You Can communicate through a program Specially designed for this purpose and that is Operating System.

A Computer is made of Hardware and to Communicate with them an operating System Is needed. It makes the interaction between a User and a Computer Easier and more Efficient.

It Will interest You to Know that Operating System has different types as well, can you think of one? Alright, let’s look at it together.

Types Of Operating Systems

The Windows:

Windows is also Shortened as Win and, it was developed by Microsoft. It Was first launched on the 10th November 1983.

Its operation includes Storage of files, Running Software, playing Video Games, Accessing the internet, and Even watching Videos e. t.c, Can you think of other operations?

Examples Of Windows Include Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, and even Windows 11. Can you think of other Windows?
