Introduction
I greet you once again friends.Welcome to the week seven of our lesson series.Trust you are all fine and you should be enjoying the holiday too.Learning never ends and we shall continue to learn together. We have been able to learn quite a lot from my previous lesson.I know we are going to learn even more from this week 7 lesson.
This week we shall look at the topic Equations Involving Fractions. For the past two weeks, our topic has dwelled on different forms of equation. This week is also an extension of the previous topics..
Equation Involving Fractions
I believe everyone that has been following the lesson series must have known the meaning of equations and how to solve simple equations. We have also done how to solve equations Involving bracket. We shall proceed to equations Involving fractions.Remember that an equation will always have a combination of digits and alphabets as well as an equality symbol.
Equations Involving Fractions means that part or all of the equation will have a fraction. To solve this,we have to find the LCM of the denominators of the fractions, divide the LCM by each denominator and then multiply with the numerator.
For example if we have the equation:
X/2 + 10/1=5
The LCM of the 2 and 1(denominators) is 2.So I will draw a line and fix 2 under it.I will then use the denominator of the first part of the equation( which is 2) to divide 2 and then multiply it with X.Next I will use the denominator of the other fraction(which is 1) to divide 2 and then with 10.I will add everything up and then cross multiply.I am sure you understand what I mean. After this step of cross multiplicationI,i will then collect like terms and then find the unknown quantity or variable. You can see that it is similar to our week 5 lesson.
The objective of the lesson is to help the students to understand how to solve equations Involving Fractions.Proper understanding of this topic will help the students to solve other mathematical problems as they move to higher classes.Try to see the video for proper understanding.
👆This video is a proper guide on solve Equation Involving Fractions.
At this juncture.Let us carefully look at some practical examples which would help us to understand the topic very well.
NB:I have made a YouTube video that will help make the understanding much more easier.Endeavour to see the video.
See other examples here on paper.
