What is poverty?

Poverty is simply the state of not having enough money to meet the basic needs of life, such as food, shelter, and clothes. It is far more than just having enough money, but also food and a place to put your head. Poverty is never good because someone who is poor finds it difficult to eat three square meals a day.

List and explain five causes of poverty.

The five causes of poverty that I know of have been listed and explained below.

Conflict and instability

Conflict and instability are common causes of poverty. In a society where there is violence and war, the people will definitely be poor because they can't go about their daily activities. Conflict affects the growth of a country since people's lives are usually in danger, and no one will be interested in working.

Lack of education

Education has the power to bring people out of poverty, but in Nigeria today, millions of people lack education. A good education can place someone in a high position, but a lack of education contributes to poverty.

Lack of access to jobs and livelihoods

A person can be poor when he or she has no work or business to do. Lack of jobs that will pay you causes poverty, which is very bad. A person who has no source of income can be poor.

Lack of Government Support

The government is supposed to be providing support to its citizens, and any government that fails in this responsibility has indirectly created poverty in the country.

Climate change

Climate change is also another cause of poverty. Heavy droughts can destroy crops, forcing farmers and other people to migrate for survival.

Limited Access to Education

A person who is poor has limited access to education. Such a person can't afford to go to a better school or train his or her children in a good school.

Health Issues

This is another consequence of poverty, where one is unable to have access to treatment whenever he or she is sick.

Criminal Issue

Poverty leads to stealing, envy, jealousy, and so on.

Lack of Respect

Poverty would make people look down on you. You will never be respected by the people in your community.

Limited access to social amenities

When you're poor, you will not have access to some of the social amenities in your community because you will not be able to pay for them.

What are the poverty alleviation strategies you know, and how can they help reduce poverty?

The poverty alleviation strategy that I know of is N power, which was initiated by the federal government of Nigeria. N power is a program that aims to help Nigerian youths by keeping them away from unemployment.

What can you personally do to alleviate poverty in your locality?

What I can personally do to alleviate poverty in my locality is to introduce people to Steemit, so they can start writing and get paid for contributing to the platform.
