University Of Uyo Combined Convocation Scandal and A Chit-chat With @akwaowo on Educational Brouhaha and A Comeback
It's been a long time here friends, parents won't let their kids see this but let's bring this to the table and understand why we are educated, I know you missed me, here I am, feed yourself with the words below, more than just a diary.(07/11/2024)
A few weeks ago if not mistaken a moderator from Steem4nigeria or Steem4nigeria, in general, hosted a contest which was about formal education is not the only way to financial freedom, in some scenarios it sounds completely true while somehow we might rephrase this statement by saying that "formal education should never be a tag used to obtain financial freedom", don't come with the mindset of getting rich rather obtain a better life because of expositions and I will like to put it clear that institution is only to expose you and give you the basic knowledge, not to give you money directly as many will say, because with the knowledge obtained in the course of study, you are expected to go out to the labour market showcase the knowledge and exposition to the outside world giving meaningful solutions to problems, only a solution giver can be rewarded.

I brought this up because of a statement made by a friend. I signed up on the platform some time ago, @akwaowo, and he just convocated, and that morning, though I arrived later at the venue, I wasn't in attendance as I had a class still on campus that day. I took him a snapshot before he left.
On returning, I had a chitchat with him, and he was so grieved about the educational sector in Nigeria; there was no motivation; the overall best-graduating student from the faculty of engineering was given a total sum of N30,000, which is about 100 steem if 1 steems equals N300. I wondered how this can spur up the interest of freshmen in the university; a job wasn't offered, nor did the university offer to retain the student as it was done back in the days.
Why did we go to school? Is it to become meaningful to society, and how do you think we can be meaningful? Is it by going back to the village with our certificate at hand, roaming about, and looking for jobs? There are no physical jobs. Even a lecturer confirmed some time ago that the paid jobs these days are those from tech, as many will abbreviate.
Dressing him up
My friend @akwaowo, a graduate from the chemistry education department, went so far as to prove that most courses shouldn't be studied in Nigeria; many are not practiced, and many get the certificate dumped in their lockers and are still making it in life. He went further to argue that even medicine should be studied here. He proved his point, but as I always do, I stand to the counter to justify certain courses. But the truth is, here we have come to acquire knowledge, and that is what makes us more unique than palmwine tappers.
Do you know something? The majority of the students are convocating today; if not, the practical aspect cannot stand to defend their certificate; many will not be able to do so, and neither will they prove to society that they are graduates. We are given certificates not just for learning but for character and learning; I understand the character as affective; how can you affect society? Character is innermost and protrudes, and it is seen by all; this is why we are in school. I must say in my courses, basic concepts are less ambiguous, but complexes are still like fog covering the eye. Let me stop typing here.
In the end, I encourage @akwaowo to come back and do his best on this blockchain; I know his challenge is a better device, and I hope he gets one soon.
I don't know what's the best title to give to this post; it's a diary but has something to do with education, the school system, lifestyle, and a better life. I would love @goodybest, @ngoenyi, @whizzbro4eva and @ninapenda to stop by.
