Brenda could easily have avoided all of these consequences if she had listened to her mother, obedience really saves lives. What if someone was inside the house when such a thing happened, she would have herself to blame for murder.

It's good that she learnt her lessons in a hard way, but we shouldn't wait till the consequences happen to us before realizing ourselves, sure we don't want to learn in a hard way like she did. So it's best to do what we know is right and keep being obedient
