Unforgiveness imprisons people in the past. As long as you are not willing to forgive the person and his offence you keep it alive. You choose to love hate and cultivate through your life. Unforgiveness imprisons you in the pains of your past. On the other hand forgiveness completely free you from past and from bitterness in the present.

LEARNING TO FORGIVE The Danger of Unforgivenes

In Bible there's lot in it about forgiveness. Let me say just few of them.

Five things that the Bible talk about forgiveness that we have to forgive one another as God in Christ have forgiven us in order to forgive others. We must understand that forgiveness is not minimizing somebody's wrong, it is not overlooking somebody's wrong. It is not taking the blame for somebody's wrong. Secondly forgiveness is not waiting for an apology. Jesus did mot wait for Pharisees to apologise before he forgive them on cross. Thirdly forgiveness is reconciliation. It takes two to reconcile. Two people to repent to reconcile. But you can forgive without ever experiencing reconciliation. Though forgiveness will many times lead to reconciliation. The forth thing forgiveness is not a option but it's a command. And the last thing is that forgiveness doesn't change the past but it will enlarge your future.

Any relationship cannot survive without forgiveness. If one doesn't forgive continually, one will accumulate bitterness that will destroy any and every relationship.

It is not sheer virtue or the nobility only, there are biblical theological and spiritual compelling motives of forgiveness. Forgiveness is the most god like act. This is precisely god's attitude towards sinners.

Unfortunately we always bury hatchet but leave the handle sticking out. Actually very insightful thoughts the term bury the hatchet to forget to forgive someone but the handle sticking out so we could go and take it out again. If we need really, forget where we bury the hatchet.

I'm not going to tolerate you okay I forgive you. It's not forgiveness. Forgiveness is something that happens with it deep within us and it is a deep recognition that true I who I truly am cannot be harmed. I'm sprit. I'm pue love.

Nothing can touch me in my true self. The general self we all take ourselves to be can be hurt but let us remeber who we truly are as sprit which cannot be touched by anything neighter can weapon cut it not fire burn it as the Gita tells us which Krishna tells us in Gita. So it's a deep recognition that who I truly am cannot be harmed and it's a letting go. It's purpose primarily free ourselves for us to get free.

Interesting to note that the meaning of Sanskrit word for forgiveness is: it's an attribute to the devine but it also means forbearance and patience something to think about.

Peter the disciple of Jesus asked him Lord who often should I forgive someone. If my brother sins against me how often should I forgive him maybe seven times because he thought seven times is a lot of times to forgive someone.

Forgiveness was not an occasional act it is parmanent atitude that was what Jesus taught his disciple.

Nelson Mandela replied, “Forgiveness liberates the soul, that's why it is such a powerful weapon.”

In our family also forgiveness is the secret to our happiness, joy and peace.

Before I conclude I would request three other fellow Steemians to share their views on the topic.

I agree with you that forgiveness is virtue, and not everyone can express it, so when you can, don't hold it back keep releasing to the most wanted. And forgiveness should not be seen as a weakness, but rather as a way of freeing ourselves from every form of anger and resentment so that we can move forward and have progress. Forgiveness restore peace and harmony in a relationship or family and create bond.Good luck!

One of the powerful sentence "Unforgiveness imprisons people in the past." Which is true if you don't forgive someone you are still in the past which is very bad.

It is nice and interesting on how you highlight the necessary of forgiveness in our life.

I have read different religious books even if I am not that religious and feel that every religion talks about forgiveness but practically most of us do not believe in forgiveness. And even if we do, the revenge takes the prime space in our hearts! Cheers!

True.

When we forgive, we freed ourselves from past hurts, resentment and anger. It is important that we forgive those who wronged us as it is a command to do so. Forgiveness fosters unity and togetherness. When we forgive we will live at peace with all men. I wish you success in your life endeavors and in this contest. Thank you for sharing

Forgiveness is a reconciliation i agree with your perspective. It's easy to forgive and forget when two reconcile and it will be greatly complicated when one forces for forgiveness. In the case of Peter and Jesus, Peter thought forgiveness wasn't important and if someone could forgive up to seven times, the person has done enough infact such a person is a perfect person, Jesus told him not untill seven times but 77 times, he i mean was shock. Forgiveness isn't something we do for people to see instead it's something that comes from the bottom of our hearts and if it's truly from the heart, we'll forgive and let it go. Best of luck sir.
