The computer Operating System

Hello dear kids and parents, it is me today participating in the daily protocol for the steemkids and parents community.

Well today is Wednesday and it is about technology, and so i would like to discuss a technological topics i learnt in Data Processing which is a subject i am offering in my school.

What is an Operating system?

This can be defined as sets of programs, that manages computer resources. It is also sets of routines and procedures governing the Operation of the computer system.
The Operating System(OS) controls the flow of various signals from the central processing unit to different parts of the computer.
It is the first program that is loaded onto the computer as soon as it is switched on.
The can be referred to as OS.

Properties of and OS

A good operating system should have the following properties:

• It should be simple to understand

• It must be affordable

• It must be changeable over a period of time.

• It must be convenient to use

• An OS executes programmes

• It also helps I'm the handling of errors.

Function of an OS

• It controls all the operations of the system

• It provides an interface between the computer resources and it's users.

• It protects the computer software

• It allocates facilities for files and programs

• It informs the user of any hardware or software errors in the system

• It starts the control of all input and output operations

• It shares available resources based on the needs of various user programs.

Types of the OS

1. Single-user single- task: This form of operating system only allows one user at a time and one task to be carried out at a time.

2. Single-user multi-tasker: This allows only one user at a time but more than one task can be carried out at s time.

3. Multi-user Multi-tasker: This allows more that one user at a time and more tat one task to be carried out at a time.

4. Network OS: The main difference here is that all computers stand alone and is connected to the the Operating System.

5. Multi-processing OS: This is and OS that is caliper of using more that one processor at a time.

6. Graphics user interface (GUI): This is an OS with graphics and you work by navigate with the mouse.

7. Multi-trading OS: This is an OS to enable more than one user at a time, without requiring multiple copies of the program running on the computer.
