The weather conditions of every season of the year, poses a risk of possible presence of natural disasters. The rainy season has been characterized by flood which has unfortunately killed and destroyed lives and properties in most rural areas of many countries of the world. The dry season also comes with wind which amplifies the risk of fire outbreak. In my article today, I'll be discussing on the contest theme "The Weather Condition In My Locality and How I am Preparing For a Possible Disaster" organized and published by @goodybest. Let's begin the task

What Is the weather condition in your locality and how does it affect people's activities?

The current weather condition in Nigeria is the attached with the monsoon climate. Some parts of the country like the northern part are close to having a dry season earlier this year, which usually starts from October down to March.

The frequent downpour of rain in some areas has been affecting the lives of with the presence of flood. The presence of flood has deeply affected people badly. In the affected areas, going to work is now a problem, you see people walking inside water, cars can't be used for movement, education comes to a halt, crops being washed away, houses being submerged causing people to be displaced from their homes seeking humanitarian assistance. The government needs to take a look at that

Do you think there is a possibility to cause a disaster? If yes how are you preparing for it?

Every year, there are possibilities of disaster occurrence of flood in the Niger Delta region as well as other states of the country. The frequent disaster of flood in the Niger Delta region, as well as other states is familiar with the rainy season here. As of a news report on the 11th of August, 2023, the monsoon season/climate has displaced over 7,000 people, 75 injured and about 5 dead due to flood. Although the casualties of the this year were low compared to that of last year. In 2022, there was a record of 2.5 million people affected. And I guess it was possible intervention and management of water bodies and others by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), that reduced the risk of fatalities in 2023.

In the region of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where I live, there hasn't been cases of flood close to me. Just like two places has been affected with flood throughout this year. Flood isn't limited to a particular place, it can happen anywhere. If there should be a possible occurrence of flood in my environment, my preparedness towards it will be.

✓Ensuring the passage of drainages properly, from my home.
✓Store every important documents/files in safe places above the ground level
✓Learn to maintain and emergency kit stocked with non perishable foods, essential gadgets and rest of them
✓Finally, if there's a possible alternative means of evacuation from the area, I will gladly consider it to avoid the damages when the disaster struck.

Conclusion

Depending on the location and frequent occurrence of a specific natural disasters, it is important to be prepared individually for response to such situations, and assistance from the government despite the season or climate condition....

Sorry @emmy01 for the adventure in your country. I can see that truly heavy rainfall is a stumbling block to your economical stability because of the destruction of agricultural produce through erosion and flooding, destruction of motorable régions for conveyance of agricultural produce from the most interior locations. I wish there could be a way out for harnessing this.

Your write up is a nice one. Keep it up.... Congrats

Good aversive approach. I totally agree with everything you have suggested to avoid disaster, especially placing books and documents above ground level.

This mistake don do some students strong ting.
