Social Studies: Agents/Agencies of Socialization
Greetings to everyone this community. It has always been @udyliciouz motive to educate us and help us know certain things about our environment. I've come to love this subject, one I dreaded in school back then because of the teacher.
The topic on agencies and agents of socialization served as an informative and enlightening topic which helps us know the differences between an agent and agencies and also see their peculiar roles in socialization. From my understanding of this topic, I'm eligible to answer these three questions correctly.
Is agencies and agent of socialization the same? |

From their names, we can discern that there are no similar words. They are rather different. For example, we've been hearing the full meaning of NAFDAC - which means National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control. The word Agency is stressed there showing that NAFDAC Is not an individual or person. We've also been hearing of land agent.
This is likely a person who is the forefront of a house. The land agent here from this example is a person no doubt. So with this, agencies and agents of socialization can be defined.
Agencies of socialization refer to various organizations or larger social institutions who actively influence or play a role in socializing individuals. Examples are;

Agents of socialization are the specific or particular people or groups of people within the organization who socialize individuals directly by transmitting cultural values, attitude, and behaviors to persons.

There's are various agencies of socialization that play a crucial role in not just shaping an individual's personality but also teaching them what is worthwhile and generally accepted in the society. Some of these agents include;
- Family: This is the first and most important agent of socialization. It is a setting where a child learn the basics including values, beliefs and norms. As it is said, Charity begins from home, it is in the family children first learn how to interact with others and how to behave and incorporate values that are worthwhile and generally accepted in the society.
The picture above shows a family setting. The agency is the Family while the agents in the family include the father, mother or any other person.
- School: This is another Importance agency which provides individuals with basic skills, knowledge and attitude necessary to function well in the society and as well use the knowledge they acquired in solving major problems Facing the state. It is in school individuals interact and that social life is purely enhanced as they get to make new friends and the likes.
They also develop relationships with not just their peers but also adults and as well engage in activities organized in school that contribute to theiy personal development. The picture shows how this major agency contribute to socialization.
- Peer groups: This consists of people of the same age and interest or probably in the same class. This agency directly contribute to socialization as we learn from our peers, develop social skills and as well explore different things together. It is said that; If you show me your friend, I'll tell you who you are**.
This is very true as peer groups influence the behavior and attitude of an individual due to continuous social interaction.
Mass media: This also play a crucial role in shaping an individual's personality and influence the way people think and do. The information on the media which may be through radios, televisiob, internet or even newspaper can affect the way one interact.
Government and Religion and contribute immensely.

Socialization makes one competent and as well acquire knowledge and social skills for one's personal development.
In relation to developing social relationship with others, socialization makes it possible for individuals to interact with family members , friends and the likes which profers a sense of belonging and support from all angles.
Socialization develops an individual's personality which includes one's attitude and behaviors.
Socialization has undoubtedly has a profound effect on individual's personality and behavior. That deep sense of identity and belonging is acquired and this can possible only through agents/agencies of socialization .
