Social Studies Lesson: Transportation
Greetings, everyone.
I'm using this medium to say a very big thank you to our tutor, @udyliciouz, for bringing such an interesting topic to the table. We appreciate your teachings, as they are helping us a lot.
No doubt, there's no one out there that does not know the importance of transportation and how it has helped better our lives. Transportation plays a vital role in our day-to-day activities; without transportation, we won't be able to carry out certain activities.
Every food we enjoy today is all thanks to transportation because it was all transported to the shop or market where we bought it. Transportation is vital to the economy of every country; without transportation, the economy will crash. Without transportation, a business circle is not complete; it is by means of transportation that goods are being distributed.
Transportation can simply be defined as the movement from point A to point B. It is the migration or movement of people, goods, and services from one location to another. Even walking short distances is said to be transportation; it is not necessarily taking a cab or a train. As long as there was a change in location, transportation occurred.
There are different means by which humans and goods are transported, and these include the beast of burden, which is believed to be outdated, trains, aeroplanes, etc.
There are two forms of transportation, and these include:
Modern Transportation: As the world continued to evolve, more means of transportation were discovered. During the olden days, there were no cars, no aeroplanes, no trains, and not even a bicycle was available. Every journey one was to embark on had just two choices: either a beast of burden or human porterage, but today we have multiple choices if we want to travel.
Traditional Means of Transportation: This is the method by which the stone-age man traveled; the early man had just two choices, unlike what we do today. This form of transportation was slow and quite risky, as one could be attacked and robbed of everything.
Air Transportation: Just like the name implies, this is a situation where people and goods are being transported by air. To some extent, I will say it is the fastest means of transportation.
Railway: This form of modern transportation seems to be fading away but still serves a purpose. This is the process by which people, goods, and services are transported by train. It serves better when the goods are quite heavy and too large for other means of transportation and can only be transported by train.
Road Transportation: The easiest means of transportation simply refers to traveling by cars, trucks, bicycles, tricycles, motorcycles, etc. It is the only means of transportation that allows door-to-door services.
