Social Studies Lesson: Safety in the home and school

Greetings everyone.

My sincere appreciation goes to our beloved tutor, @udyliciouz, who took out time to share with us all we needed to know about staying safe. It is vital that we all stay safe whether adults or kids, our safety really matters. If we fall into any form of danger it incurs unbudgeted expenses and staying safe can help cut down this unbudgeted expenses.

Safety can mean a lot of things, in my own understanding I will say safety is the absence of roaming danger on the lives and properties of individuals. For one to be safe, it simply means they are far from anything that endangers their lives and properties.

Whenever there's chaos anywhere my dad always says safety first, we always flee from an environment where we sense danger. Safety can also mean those things we do to avoid falling into harm or danger.

There are so many things we can do ensure safety in our homes and a few are listed below;

• Make sure the tiles are not wet, when they are wet they tend to be slippery which endangers our lives.
• Provision Of adequate ventilation to avoid suffocation.
• A generator should not be used inside the house, many people make the mistake of using their gasoline generator inside the house forgetting the harm carbon monoxide can cause.
• The use of phone close to gas cookers should be avoided at all cost, I never believed it can cause harm until I witnessed it with my eyes.
• Children should not be allowed anywhere near electrical appliances.

The measures we can take to ensure safety at school includes all of the following;

• Teachers should be watchful of every move the kids make, some teachers just allow the kids do whatever pleases them while they are are busy with their phone.
• Chemicals in the laboratory should be diluted.
• Provision Of good and clean water, many schools fail to make provisions for water to their students and students are left to fend for themselves.
• The carrying of weapon like materials to class should not be allowed.

Safety at work place differs with one's line of work.

• Avoid the use of drugs that could cause drowsiness while working.
• Wear protective gloves when needed.
• Wear face shield when needed especially when one works with a welding machine.
• Fire extinguishers should be made available in case of fire outbreak.
• Workers should read and abide by the safety rules of the company or work place.
