Good day members of @Steemkidss and all you members of this great platform, I greet you all, in today's topic I am going to talk about Vegetation.

What is Vegetation

Vegetation refers to the type of plant cover or plant community In a place or na area. In other words it is the community of different kinds of specie's of plant growing together in an area of geographical entity and possessing which arises from the arrangements of plant species and the relative proportion of the different species.

Factors affecting vegetation growth

A combination of four factors affect vegetation growth, they are:

• Climatic factor
• Edaphic factor
• Geomorphic factor
• Biotic factor

Climatic factor: it has to do with temperature, humidity, precipitation, light, intensity and wind (i.e The climate element) through nature affecting vegetation growth in some areas and vise, versa.

Edaphic factor: These are soil found in a type in a place. The type of soil found in an area directly affected or influence vegetation growth. Rate for instance soil that doesn't retain water (Sandy soil) affect plant growth while loamy soil retaining water influence plant growth.

Geomorphic factor: These has to do with land forms (topography) i.e, highland and lowland areas of region, vegetation growth is more rapid in lowland areas with moisture than in high regions.

Biotic factor: These are related to levelling organisms mostly human beings and animals, the activities of man (for instance falling of trees, cleaning and bush burning) and animals affects growth rate etc.

Types of local vegetation in Nigeria

The following are the local types of vegetation

• Forest vegetation
• Grass land vegetation
• Montance vegetation

The forest vegetation: Is subdivided into three
Man-groue/salt water swamp forest: This is found in the coastal areas with about Bo-sokim wide where fresh water from the river and salt water from the sea mect and mixe it has species with 10.15 meter long and not exceeding 25 meter etc.
Fresh water swamp forest: This is found where fresh water is in regular supply from rain, rivers. It's further in land where tide current reach the land. The land is free from the sea waters. The zone extent from lagos Nigeria 🇳🇬 to beyond port Harcourt, rivers Nigeria 🇳🇬 where the soil is still water logged.
The high forest (equatorial) / Tropical rainforest: it stretches from the western boundary of Nigeria 🇳🇬 South - East ward through Ibadan, Ilorin, Benin etc. It average with about Borno with high annual rainfall and humility of about 80% rainy season of Abia till akamkpa and cross river state as a whole fall in here.

Grassland vegetations: This is further subdivided into:
Sahel Savana: Found in the northern trip of Borno and Yobe state Nigeria 🇳🇬. This area has a month dry season and with 65cm rainfall a year.
Sudan Savana: Areas where rainfall is between 65cm and within it stretches from the sokoto plains through the northern section of the high plains of Hausa land shorter tree than guinea acacia date palm, silk cotton or lapok trees e.g a cut across sokoto, zamfara, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, kebbi, jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, and Borno state Nigeria 🇳🇬.
Guinea Savana: It is a transition zone between the forest region to the south and true Savana to the north. It has the characteristics of both forest and grassland. It has more tree than grasses with rainfall of 100 to 180cm at the border with only three fall months dry season. These have shaded leaves at dry season and remains green during rainy season.
Derined Savana: Found in the northern side of the high forest belt. It has smaller trees e.g ducidovo tree all tall grasses it's called dermined because the original vegetation has been changed as a result of human natural factors.
