Fruits farming simply refers to the type of farming that involves the cultivation of fruits crops for commercial, industrial or domestic purposes.

It's the growing of fruits crops, including nuts mainly for human consumption.

Features of Mediterranean climate
The summers are dry and warm due to the off-shore winds that blow.

The off-shore trade winds in in summer are dry and give no rain.

The one-shore winds ( westerlies ) prevail in winter.

The weather is bright and sunny giving rise to a pleasant climate in the region.

The winter are mild and wet.

The local winds blowing in the region are both hot and cold.

Condition favouring fruit farming
Availability of fertile valleys where allucial soil exist.

Availability of foreign aid.

Continual government encouragement of the cultivation of fruits.

Access to foreign markets.

Use of irrigation facilities.

Some major areas of fruits farming in the Northwest of Africa include areas line Morocco, Libya, Tunisia and Algeria.

The southern part of Africa: This is an area with reliable winter rainfall and a series of fertile valleys. The major fruits grown there are:
Vines in Cape Town and grabes in the Hex river valley. Sweet wines and dry wines are also produced depending on the availability of rainfall. Other fruits produced there include: Apples 🍎, Pearl🍐, Citrus fruits, Oranges 🍊, Pineapples, Peaches 🍑 and Carrots.

Northwest Africa: Fruits cultivated here include: Citrus, apricots and grapes in the better - watered valley of the North and in the Sahel around souse, while dates are grown in tbe oasis of the south, and Tozeur near the choff djerid, which produces a fire variety much in demand in the united state. Other fruits include: plums, peaches, lemons, grape fruits, limes and Gengerines.

Importance of fruits

Below are the importance of fruits farming:

Fruits like oranges and pineapple are consumed in many homes and are also processed into various forms of juices, and even marmalade and taken with bread🍞.

Fruits serve as raw materials for the establishment of fruits canning and processing Industries.

The cultivation of fruits allows for the provision of employment opportunities to a large number of local dwellers without means of lives hood.

Fruits earn the region of foreign exchange because most of the produced are used for exports to the European markers.

Through the processing of wine fruits, wine is obtain for man use.

Problem of fruits farming

In Africa Fruit farming is faced with the following problems:

👉 Soil Erosion: The Original vegetation in Mediterranean region has degenerated into scrublands with scattered trees, due to man's interference with his environment this leading to soil erosion and affect fruit farming.
👉 Effect of local wroids which reach high velocity and drainage unripe fruits.
👉 Unreliability of rainfall.
