Good morning fellow steemians,
Am so glad to share my story with you guys.

My first day at work as a teacher

My first day at work as a teacher. Remember, l was interested in the post of the receptionist but l was employed as a teacher.

I have never taught before, but when l was asked during the interview l mentioned teaching my mum, and l was asked to explain.

Well, after the first horrible presentation, l always tried my best not to fumble anymore. So, l practiced with my mum where she would sit and l would become the teacher.

When l was informed that l would be teaching adults l saw no difference between teaching my mother and my new students. So, l accepted it gladly.

My first day in the classroom was the darkest of all days l have ever lived in my life of two decades plus. Walking into the room that morning, l almost ran out, but the word of God In the book of Isaiah 'Fear not,l am with thee' gave me stamina, therefore, l stayed, trembling.

I had three problems that morning; One, I lacked the detailed knowledge of the topics l was given to teach, these topics were not new to me, but don't ask me to explain or teach them.

Second, entering the classroom and meeting a class of well–dressed people, old enough to be my parents, fixedly gazing at me,l ran out of words to address them.

Third, chidi nwiga's, "do it afraid" did not work because l didn't know what to do or say to the eagerly awaiting students in the first place.

The hints l was given at the workshop, to begin with, had grown wings and flown away as soon as fear set in. There's a vast difference between theory and practice.

" It's not hard. l can do it" l recollected making this statement after the workshop and my confidence arose, only to get into the real thing, and words vanished leaving me with a dried throat.

I excused myself, went to the restroom, and then my superior reminded me what to begin with,l came back and started the class, but it was my superior who helped me finish it and the subsequent ones.

That day, l made use of the restroom till l lost count, not to urinate or the other one, but to cool my head, that is why it's called the pardon room, anyways.

One day, l decided l wanted to be better and grow, so l bet on finishing the class myself. Halfway into the class l struggled with a particular statement that seemed incorrect to me, so, l was writing and cleaning it for so long that, one of my students raised her hand," Ma'am, if you don't know what to write, please, move aside " She said bluntly.

It was painful. But today, l am grateful for those thirteen words. l vested the pain, anger, and disappointment felt into reading grammar on the net and asking questions to escape the repetition of the experience. In the course of my study l came by the idea of speaking to my reflection in the mirror as though speaking to a class of students or an audience.

I became better over time, and the same set of people testified to that.

LESSON ; Don't wait to have an awkward experience, before prioritizing personal growth and development. I learned my lesson by channeling my anger productively. Do the same in an awkward situation.

Hello dear
Be it any job, any kind of work, when we have to step into this work on the first day, many questions arise in us and many fear in us. That we do not know how we will be treated further but we should enter into this work with full confidence and dedication. And thus we can make a good position of ourselves. Just like you have to face some things, everyone has to but over time as we develop more confidence in ourselves, we make a mark in this work. As we all know you have done your very best.
Best of luck.

Hello my dear friend, thanks for publishing this wonderful article with us, I can see how stressful it was when you went for the interview but at last you were able to overcome everything which was the happiest part of it, I really thank God that you were able to put everything through, I can see that teaching in public isn't an easy thing but at last you were able to have fun and be able to put everything through just has you expected it to be, I can see that hardwork and determination really pays alot and I pray that you should continue to have that confident in you, as we all know that you have done your best.
I wish you Goodluck 🙏.
