Starlink : Space Internet Availability & Coverage(Part 8)

in Zero to Infinity3 years ago

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is launching satellites into orbit with the goal of providing high-speed broadband internet to as many people as possible. Customers interested in participating in Starlink's "Better Than Nothing" beta programme can now place preorders.

The "Better Than Nothing" program, which is currently in BETA mode, offers customers free devices to test out Starlink internet. SpaceX also has an "Early Adopter" program where customers can receive a free device with an early bird price of $49; however, these purchases are not counted towards the 10,000 customer count on the coverage map.

"We're looking forward to getting real data in the field," SpaceX's website reads.

Starlink now has over 10,000 customers, according to Musk's company, which was announced in February. Now, the service is working on expanding preorders to even more potential customers, with one of the top priorities being people who currently do not have access to high-speed internet.

Starlink's service is currently only available in a few regions in the United States, Canada, UK, Germany, New Zealand, and other countries, but the service now has over 10,000 customers, and the coverage map will continue to expand as more satellites join the constellation.
Starlink's internet service is currently unavailable in the southern United States. In August 2019, SpaceX unveiled a plan that would deploy 60 satellites in three different orbital planes rather than a single plane.
This would allow Starlink to provide service in southern US locations. However, this plan has not yet been implemented as of yet.

Musk targets the area where the internet is hard to reach. So it most likely Asia is the one to be privileged by this project. But when will Starlink available in Asia? But there is some hope. The Starlink satellite internet service from SpaceX will soon be available in the Philippines, where internet speeds are among the slowest in the world.
Elon Musk's SpaceX is reportedly talking to the government of the Philippines about bringing broadband to the country with its Starlink internet satellite constellation.

We can't wait to see how SpaceX will make this service available.

In India, The Department of Telecom (DoT) is looking into whether Elon Musk's SpaceX satellite-based internet broadband service Starlink would violate any of India's existing telecom and technology laws as it prepares to commercialize it. SpaceX is currently accepting preorders for the beta version of Starlink for a fully refundable deposit of $99 in India.

SpaceX is looking to launch its Starlink satellite internet service in India starting in 2020, according to a report based on an interview with Elon Musk. The plan could offer access as low as $10 per month, making it far cheaper than what most Indians pay now for their mobile data.
