Hello everyone, I would like to give shout outs to the administrators and the moderators for keeping this community interesting and educative.

I would be presenting my entry on my favourite science topic contest.

My presentation would be based on the Reproductive System of Humans.

The world we live in now is explained by science as well as everything else we do. Science is divided into 4 major parts; biology, chemistry, physics and Mathematics. Science has other divisions as well such as astronomy, biochemistry, etc which all have their foundations from the 4 major divisions listed above.

Science as a whole has never ending topics and one can never actually say he's done studying science because new discoveries and theories are made everyday.

I have always been enthusiastic about our reproductive system ever since I was first thought in primary school. I don't know if it had anything to do with my adolescence or the buzz it created in my class anytime we were to study anything related to our reproductive system. Well to think of it, we were all adolescents🤭. I guess that is why I choose it as my favourite topic amongst several others.

The Reproductive System Of Humans.

To begin, reproduction is the act of giving rise to offspring by their parents. Reproduction is not only found in humans but in plants and other animals as well.

Reproduction is carried out with the help of our reproductive system. Males have the male reproductive system where as females have the female reproductive system. These systems have a lot of benefits to us humans.

What then is the reproductive system?

Reproductive system as defined by Wikipedia as a biological system made up of all the anatomical organs involved in sexual reproduction.

The main function of the male reproductive system is to produce sperm where as that of the female reproductive system is to produce eggs and keep the womb or foestus nourished until birth.

Humans reproduce by what is known as sexual intercourse or sex although reproduction can be done by artificial insemination these days. Sex can only happen via the help of reproductive organs from the reproductive system.

The main organs responsible for sex is the penis and vagina. Other organs like the testes is responsible for sperm production which is deposited into the female during intercourse. Women also have the uterus or womb which houses a fertilized egg.

I would like to talk about some importance of the structures of the male reproductive system.

The male reproductive system is first of all located outside the body of the male and found around the pelvis region. Its primary function already stated above is to produce sperms for fertilization of ovum.

The testes, the scrotum and the epididymis are all involves in matters relating to sperm. Sperm is produced in the testes, stored in the scrotum and epididymis hold immature sperms for development.

Sperms move with fluid called semen which are produced with the help of the Cowper's gland.

The penis is used to deliver the sperms into the reproductive system of the woman during coitus. This semene flows out through the urethra.

The Female Reproductive System.

Just like in the male reproductive system, I would like to talk about some importance of structures of the Female reproductive system.

The female reproductive system is found inside the body and around the pelvis region. The primary function of this system is to hold a foetus for development.

The vagina receives the penis allowing semen to get into the system during coitus and serves as passage way for babies during delivery or labour.

Another important structure is the uterus that holds and nourishes a developing foestus.

Fertilization cannot take place when eggs have not been produced and the other responsible for this is the ovaries. These eggs are fertilized in the fallopian tubes.

Studying the reproductive system in humans is very important since it gives us important knowledge on our reproductive health and lack of knowledge can result in a lot of problems.

Importance of reproductive health.

  1. Knowledge in reproduction helps males to understand what ejaculation and erection is so when they do not experience either, they know they have problems with their reproductive system.

  2. This gives us an idea of foods to eat to keep our bodies healthy. Examples; drinking a lot of water, eating fruits, avoiding drugs, etc.

  3. Knowledge of reproductive health helps us to distance ourselves from activities that can harm our reproductive system.

Common diseases associated with our reproductive system.

  1. Sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDS.

  2. Erectile dysfunction in males.

  3. Infertility in women.

  4. Cancer of the reproductive system like cervical cancer in women.

Conclusion.

Discussions on reproductive systems in my country is sometimes seen as things bad people do and so to have the freedom to do so in class was and is always exciting since we get to learn about what brings us into existence. I guess this is part of the reason I have always enjoyed studies related to the reproductive system because I get to learn about my reproductive system which is very important.
