AISHA YESUFU’s WORK ON ACTIVISM

Aisha Yesufu involvement in the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) in 2014 by lending her voice to the kidnapped Chibok girls was a catalyst that brought her into the main stream of activism in the country. Though in some of her interviews, she participated in a number of protests while in school which must have shaped her from the onset towards identifying herself into full stream of activism. Speaking up against injustice as she will always say was an avenue to give back to her society.

In the same struggle to free the Chibok girls, Aisha Yesufu was the Sit-Out Coordinator and then Chairperson of the Strategic Team of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign group. In April 2014, there was a sit-in protest at the Unity Fountain to compel the government to bring back the remaining girls despite all forms of intimidation and harassment by Nigerian security agents.

During the #EndSArs campaign in October 2020, she was a very active member in this course. This Protest was geared against police brutality that eventually led to the dissolution of the SARS tactical unit on Sunday, October 11, 2020, by the Inspector General of Police. Aisha Yesufu has been seen physically present in at least over 100 protests in Nigeria as she is now known to be one of the positive change voice in the country.

Just recently, Aisha Yesufu is said to have joined the league of most influential women in Nigeria and world at large. This was confirmed by enlisting Aisha Yesufu from BBC’s 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for the year 2020. According to BBC, this year’s list highlighted those who are leading change and making a difference during these turbulent times.

This was one of her quotes in one of the interviews she granted: “For me, activism has been part of me all my life. I am somebody that stands up against injustice because I have a ‘big mouth.’” Funny though but this is what she stands for.

Funniest part is that she has a big mouth, for me laugh, that's at the end of the story.

Yeah, what an irony...

@talktofaith, Thanks for your visit here

Wow!! I feel so touched with her actions. She is indeed a brave and strong lady. She's so so blessed with a good heart to stand against injustice while others will have the opportunity to fight but shy away. I love this lady already. We need more of such ladies on our countries especially Africa to end all this unjust acts towards women and girls. Thanks for sharing this beautiful information.
