Salauddin Aiyubi || Historical person contest participation

I am paraphrasing about the great leader Sultan Salauddin Aiyubi Today.

Sultan Salauddin Ayubi is said to be the first Sultan of Egypt & Syria and he was the founder of the Ayubi dynasty. Salauddin is also known to the western world and they call him Saladin. His ethnicity was Kurdish but he liberated Jerusalem in two crusades in addition to the Egyptian and Syrian regimes. He is a popular name in the Muslim and Christian world for resisting the two (2nd and 3rd) crusades. Under his wise leadership, his sultanate included Egypt, Syria, Mesopotamia, the Hejaz, Yemen, and many other parts of North Africa.

In 1163, Nuruddin Zengi, a senior member of his Zengi dynasty, sent him to Fatimid Egypt. Salauddin rose to the top of the Fatimid government through military success against the Crusaders. He had close ties with the Fatimid Caliph Al-Adid. When his uncle Sherkoh died in 1179, Al Adid appointed Saladin as his vizier. It was rare for Sunni Muslims to be given such positions. While being a vizier, he was hostile to Fatimid rule. After the death of al-Adid, he assumed power and declared allegiance to the Abbasid caliphate in Baghdad. His popularity was the reason of protecting Egypt from crusade attack by the sea port. In the following years, he launched attacks on the Crusaders in Palestine, ordered successful conquests in Yemen, and overthrew the Fatimid uprising in Upper Egypt.

Shortly after Nuruddin's death in 1174, Salauddin personally led the conquest of Syria. At the request of the ruler of Damascus, he entered the city peacefully. Officially they were the rulers of Syria. Then he defeated the Zengi army and was proclaimed Sultan of Egypt and Syria by the Abbasid Caliph. He carried out further operations in northern Syria and Jazira. During this time he survived two assassination attempts by the Hashemites.

The Ayubi army under the personal leadership of Saladin defeated the Crusaders at the Battle of Hattin in 1187 AD. This made it easier for the Muslims to conquer Palestine from the Crusaders. Six years ago, the Crusaders occupied Palestine in first crusade. Although the Crusaders maintained the Palestinian state for some time, the defeat of Hattin turned the tide of the Crusaders' conflict with the Muslims in the region. Saladin was an important figure in Muslim, Arab, Turkish and Kurdish cultures. In third crusade, he made contract with crusaders that the Jerusalem will be of Muslims but Cristian pilgrim will able to visit that place. He died in Damascus in 1193. He donated most of his wealth to his subjects. He was buried next to the Umayyad Mosque. His shrine is located there.

Nice article. I would like to share another information here.

In third crusade, he made contract with crusaders that the Jerusalem will be of Muslims but Cristian pilgrim will able to visit that place.

Though Salauddin Aiyubi is recognized as the most significant Muslim commander of the Crusades, he was not hated by Christians, but quite the opposite — he deserved their admiration. When he conquered Jerusalem, many Christians were offered free passage out of the land. The ones that were held captive were allowed to buy freedom. Men had to pay only 10 dinars, women had to pay 5 dinars, and children had to pay 1 dinar. [Source]

Ya Exactly.
After first crusade, muslims and jews were killed in Jeruzalem, but Salauddin did not do that.

Great history and very well-written article. I'm impressed. Thank you for teaching me something I didn't know before!
