MUSIC FOR STEEM WEEK 7 - @esouthern3 and @cmp2020 “Feed the Birds”

Our entry for this week is “Feed the Birds” from the movie (and musical) Mary Poppins. Last week’s hint comes from the lyrics of the song: “All it takes is tuppence from you.”

Choosing the Song
I have always been a fan of Mary Poppins. I remember watching the movie as a kid, and the musical version was my first Broadway show. Our junior year of high school, both @cmp2020 and I participated in our school’s production of Mary Poppins. Christopher was the Bank Chairman and I was Fannie (a minor character created for the musical). Not only is this song nostalgic for the two of us, but it is also my favorite song from the show. Julie Andrews (in the movie version) is absolutely amazing; I really love ballads; it has a nice vocal range; the message is sweet.

About the Song
As I mentioned, “Feed the Birds” is from the movie/musical Mary Poppins. This song is performed in Act 1. Mary Poppins, the perfect nanny who takes on the charges Jane and Michael Banks, brings the children to their father’s place of work, a bank. Before (in the movie)/after (in the musical) visiting the bank, the children come across an old woman who asks pedestrians for money in order to feed the pigeons that gather around St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. From this interaction, the children learn some valuable lessons: appearances are not always as they seem; help those in need; people value different means of investing money. Through many experiences, Mary Poppins hopes to shape the children into more considerate and open-minded people.
