Steemit Engagement challenge Week 2|| Calabar Carnival Festival Is My Favorite Cultural Festival by @goodybest
I hope you all have a pleasant weekend, mine is great and I'm super excited to take part in this noble Community week 2 Steemit Engagement challenge contest "My Favorite Cultural/Religious Festival". In this article I will share with you my favourite cultural festival which is the Calabar carnival Festival I will tell you the origins and history of this festival, and how is being celebrated so stay tune!
The Calabar carnival is one of the most colourful event, it is the biggest street party in Africa and the "Pride of Nigeria". The carnival came into existence 2004 and it was initiated by the then Governor Of Cross River State; governor Mr Donald Duke. The objective of the carnival was to make Cross River State A center For Tourism and a home for hospitality and in Africa as a large.
This carnival is celebrated annually, and it's usually every December, people will travel far and wide to attend this international carnival, the number one biggest festival in Nigeria. On before 2017 the carnival used to last for 1 month longer but the duration was reduced to two weeks, yes two weeks of fun and excitement.
The purpose of this carnival was to showcase African's rich culture to the world, to show that we are blessed.
That our Continent is a place our youths should be proud of.
Different competition used to be held during this carnival, competition with huge prices, as I said before the carnival used to be colourful, educative and fantabulous!
The committee responsible for tourism and cultural activities of the State normally drafted programmes that will took place and each year new activities are introduced, and different topic to drive the carnival has been chosen each year, for example a football competition was introduced 2009 and the committee organized carnival cup for this.
The festival includes music performance from both local and international artists, the above picture is Tiwa savage singing and performing on stage, during the festival. The fashion show was introduced, the beauty pageants miss Africa was introduced to in 2016 the theme for that here carnival what's about climate change the team was chosen 2 promote healthy eco lifestyle, To create awareness on ways to lessened the severe of of climate change and making Africa I'm more comfortable place to do well in. It was a Merger of beauty and brains.
The 2018 carnival theme was Africanism the aim was to promote our culture and the total price of 50,000 dollars for the winner and a brand new SUV.
Traditional dances, and yealy Ekpe festival used to make this the carnival More colourful and thus attracting hundred of thousands tourist.
Other activities like Essay competition for both secondary and tertiary students, make up the carnival. This activities encouraged reading culture among youths and instilling the carnival culture in them.
PARTICIPANTS:
Artists, musicians, actors and actresses, politicians and notable men and women all over the world.
Calabar carnival is one in a million carnival that you will not want to miss. It's colorful and fun, two weeks of fun with numerous cultural events, it's my favorite cultural festival. I hope you like it, thanks for reading through!

The cultural displays at this annual carnival is always very interesting to watch. My major worry is the security of tourists and their properties during this event. Especially now that the pandemic is still around. Just hope people will take safety measure this year. Nicely written. Enjoy ur vacation in advance!
Thanks so much for your nice commendations, as for your concern the tourist normally lodge at different hotels and come out during the day for the carnival and security measures is normally taken by the state Government during this period for safety reasons, so no cause for worries. Just that this festival is on hold due to the pandemic but let's just hope for the better!
This Carnival used to be world wide because people comes from far and wide to witness this festival but lately due to Covid19 and unseen circumstances, it is on a lockdown but hoping to see it back to life. Nice one Mrs. And the next one, steemians will display what we are made of.
