This is critical thinking.
Even in the court of law, things that are not true are proven to be true.
A real murderer is acquitted of his charges because of circumstancial evidence. That does not mean he is not guilty morally. But playing by the books, he is free.

Those bringing up the topic in the first place should expect antagonist reaction too.
