Greetings to steemians all over the world. Hope y'all are well today? I am glad to participate in steemit engagement challenge week 2 in steemit Pakistan which is to share about the culture of our various countries. Before I go into the challenge tips, I will first of all give brief definition of what the word "culture" means.

Culture

This is the way of social behavior of a particular society/ people, ideas, and customs which includes; beliefs and arts that can be passed from one generation to another.
Based on the challenge title, I will write about my country's (Nigeria) culture but will only pick a particular tribe in Nigeria to write about their culture which is Efik-Ibibio.

My Country's (Nigeria) Culture

Nigeria have wonderful people with different cultures among all the ethnic groups. All the ethnic groups have their unique languages. The following are the largest ethnic groups in Nigeria;

  • Hausas ( predominate in the Northern part of Nigeria)
  • Igbos ( Southeast)
  • Yorubas ( Southwest)
  • Efik-Ibibio ( South south)

One can easily differentiate them by their dressing, food, religion, language and festivals.

My Favorite Festival in Nigeria is Calabar Carnival

Origin

In 2004, Donald Duke, the former Governor of Cross Rivers State, Nigeria brought the event called Calabar Carnival to existence. This was to boost tourism, local economy and turning Cross Rivers State to one of the biggest tourist destination in Nigeria and also to greatly display the local heritage which was a success because the carnival attracts millions of people from different parts of the world to Calabar, Cross Rivers State, Nigeria.
Today, this event is the best / biggest carnival in Africa which is also known as the "Pride of Nigeria".
