New Player Question?

in CEO Champion's Gate4 years ago

Hi,
first, I hope it's ok to post here, I'm a new player that thinks to stay. I read the "Comprehensive_Piece_Guide", finding it really useful. Othen then that, I'm just a noob that is trying to orientate. I have a question for you, I saw in the guide that many champions and minions base level are weak but are really powerful at +,++ or +++ (this is not true for all of them indeed), so I obviously understood that I need to upgrade some of my units. I can't spend real money (maybe 10 bucks or something, please understand I can'tmuch more) so... I was wondering how much time of play is needed in average for upgrading a chosen unit from base level to +++ (without spending real $). I understand it varies from common, rare, epic to legendaries, so maybe you have an estimate for all or some of them. For example it could be something similar to: "For legendary 1 month of playing 2 hours a day winning only ranked games -let's say on a fast playing speed and assuming that we're playing against AI (so very fast moves)"... Does a similar question make sense? I'd really liketo play some units and I just want to understand on average how much time it could be to have them upgraded. Some of them are commons and other are epic or legendaries, some of them need at least ++ or +++ to be good. Thank you in advance!

You don't really "need" to upgrade your units if you want a semi-competitive setup in general. I think most minions are best at base anyway, with only some big exceptions like RoyalGuard++.
This is an estimate, it's been a long time since I first started, but challenges give you 15 rubies a day = 450 rubies a month = 9 ultra crates a month, or you could convert them to 1.3 million coins. It might sound strange that I'm focusing on the challenge rewards but getting 15 rubies a day from PvP matches would take a lot of time in that day.

Due to basic statistics what will happen, at least if you buy crates, is that you won't get +++ legendary for a long time, but once you get your first +++ legendary, the next will be much shorter to get, basically a wave of +++ legendaries will happen. This truism applies for all rarities and tiers but it's not as noticeable. Or you can get +++ legendaries directly but the 100+ ruby costs are pretty ridiculous and would take months to get.

Because of this I think it is significantly not worth it to specifically buy a +++ common or rare. Packs are going to get you almost all the way there anyway in about 2 months for both those categories, but if you are impatient, you can just buy one directly in less than a month (like a week or two). The cheapest epics (10 rubies) can be direct-buyed in like 3 weeks, I suppose, and the cheapest legendaries (40 rubies) direct-buyed in a month. You'll have to multiply the price accordingly though for more expensive stuff, the 200 ruby legendaries take 5x as long.

Keep in mind again that you should have a large collection of units and some playable competitive army before doing direct buys because saving ruby for them means no progress for any other units.

Thank you really much for the very detailed answer! Challenge rewards is a great suggestion. We are talking about 450 rubies or 1.3 million coins a month... could I ask you if, for long term purposes, it would be better to buy all ultra crates possible or to convert rubies to coins and buying like thousands of normal pack? (at this moment every ultra crates is worth around 170 000 coins, it's around 17k coins for 5 rubies, I don't know if it changes a lot or what is the average). If it's better to buy only ultra crates so I'm doing right, because these days I've been converting every coin I got into rubies to buy ultra crates. I felt it was more likely to make give me higher rarity units, and that it could be better on the long run, Thank you again!

According to your exchange rate 0f 17k [coins]=5 [rubies] an ultra crate costs 17k/5*50/1000=170 basic boxes
So first of all it's obvious that basics increase your unit pool way faster.
The rarity occurences within the packs is hidden. It's very certain tho, that Ultra crates chance for Legendaries is less than 10x as high as for basic packs.
https://chess-evolved-online.fandom.com/wiki/Shop
https://steemit.com/hive-135459/@e3gewinnt/empirical-rarity-occurrence-in-basic-packs
So to be better than basics to gain Legendaries Ultra Crates would need to cost less than 10x as much as basic packs.
The chance for Epics pretty sure is less than 5x as good in Ultra Crates compared to basics, so to be worth to get Epics Ultra Crates would need to cost less than 5x as much as basic packs (On the short run Ultra Crates have the gimmick tho to garanty an Epic unit).
So rn Ultra Crates are pretty bad.

mmh I understand even if, for my limited experience, probabilities were a bit different. Maybe I've been extremely lucky but in every ultra crates I opened so far (they should be like 6/7 in total -consider the new player bonus, that I don't know how it worked but surely, while it lasted, gave me a lot of coins), in every of those ultra crates I've found a minimum of 1 legendaries, to a max of 4 if I remember well, for an average of 1.5 or even 2 legendaries for crates. I repeat, maybe I've been extremely lucky, but that's around 1.5 legendaries for 170k coins, against the 1 legendary for 200k of your stats (because in the post about the 12000 basic packs you talked about 0.5% legendaries chance). For the moment I'm wondering if it's just luck or something, so I've just decided to continue to buy ultra crates -for scientific purposes- and let you know how the statistics change.

Grand confirmed, that the first appearing Diamond boxes are rigged positive to be choosen 4 sure, idk if such positive rigg also applies to the earlier buyed chests (Probably this is wrong speculation by me).
(I Edited comment some times, because I confused myself)

I'm definitely interested in your future results in Ultra Crates anyway.

By buying Basic packs, which is on long term the best investion to spend all currency (also exchanged rubies), you can realistally get all kinds of common+++ pretty fast and all rare units as +++ within some time .
I'd estimate to have one of every +++ epic after about one year of playing.
With this method all +++ legendaries will have about the same time to get, so getting your first legendary+++ will take very very long, but when it happens you'll get soon close to have all legendary+++.

You could directly buy units in shop with rubies. Like this getting a single legendary+++ would be much faster, but you would waste very much currency on long term.

Sorry for giving no exact time numbers.

Independant of if you are playing for fun or a bit to grind the ranking ladder, there are many cheap units, which you can have succes with.

A-Tier archetipes like Hoplite rush, which can bring you to every rank you like, contain only common and rare units.

Btw the best way to farm currency is playing a rush army in ranked with as high Dragon's Blessing as possible on (assuming that you play enough games after turning on Dragon boost).

Btw it's ideal to upgrade your units as late as possible. It's always possible to upgrade them in the future and it costs some ammount of coins to do so (In my experience round about 2% of what you paid for the units overall).
Personally I just upgrade units if I have all 4 units (Champion) or all 8 units (Minion) of the lower tier after upgrading.
I just break this rule if I want a unit in my army (Like op RoyalGuard++ or Lich with as high tier as possible or the first Hoplite+++ in a Hoplite rush...).

Thank you really much. You told me to convert rubies to coins to buy basic pack, which is the exact opposite of what I've been doing, in fact I've been converting every coin to rubies to buy ultra crates, maybe you could read what I've just aswered to the other post to understand what I was thinking (if you want). Secondly, it's very interisting what you said about "A-tier archetipes" and "Hoplite rush" army.. where could I read about these topics and learn something? I would even appreciate to know if some of the best players stream or something, it could be useful. And I'd like to try this hoplite rush or other rush armies as you suggested, but I don't really know how they could be built.
Thank you in advance

Reading though the Discord server can help finding some popular and/or good strategies. There's also a general Unit guide, simmilar to the one, you have read, pinned somewhere, made by Ryan, the #1 player (or#2/3). You can find replays of good players on the discord and find some armies (Care there are also bad armies).
There's no good player streaming recently.
But there are some old and so partly outdated Videos bye good players on youtube.

This is my Hoplite setup:
Actually I'm feeling like doing a written mini guide just focusing on this specific Hoplite setup in the near future.

wow thank you! I’m downloading discord rn and will read your guide anytime, thanks also for the army suggestion

p.s. maybe someone of you know how much is usually the 5 rubies/coin ratio on average? At the moment servers are probably not so frequented, so I suppose the ratio could be much different usually (don't know if lower or higher)

The exchange rate is similar to what it was before CEO going dormant. Some month ago it was at a high around 20k for 5 rubies.
Hard to tell which direction it will get in the future.

I estimate that in the last 4/5 days it has increased by about 1000 coins, so probably will go up again

I'm glad someone found the guide to be useful. On the topic of minions one of the best minions in the game, Frostmephit is most powerful at base tier. I second (or third) the notion that you should be buying a ton of basic boxes and not buying directly from the market.
